  2. Online Assessments • One side show your work • One side just put answers • If the computer works, then just print off your score and come with the work 

  3. When is the Math Superbowl Wednesday, April 25th

  4. CW Answers Fractions

  5. Number Sense Factors Multiples Composite Divisiblity Prime GCF Prime Factorization LCM

  6. Factors • Whole numbers that are multiplied to find a product are called factors of that product. • A number is divisible by its factors. 2 6 3 6 2 3 = ÷ = 6 is divisible by 3 and 2. 3 6 ÷ 2 = Factors Product

  7. Practice List all of the factors of 36 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36)

  8. Prime A Prime number is a number that has exactly 2 factors-1 and itself *2 is the only even, prime number

  9. Composite • A Composite Number is a number that has more than 2 factors. *The number 1 is neither prime nor composite

  10. Rules of Divisibility

  11. Practice Tell whether 540 is divisible by 6, 9, and 10 The number is divisible by both 2 and 3. Divisible The sum of the digits is 5 + 4 + 0 = 9. 9 is divisible by 9. Divisible The last digit is 0. Divisible So 540 is divisible by 6, 9, and 10

  12. What Did Simba Do wrong? List all the Prime Numbers 1-13 1 3 5 7 13

  13. Prime Factorization Prime Factorization- writing a number as the product of its primefactors.

  14. Method #1 The Tree Method

  15. Just Watch Write the prime factorization of 24. Choose any two factors of 24 to begin. Keep finding factors until each branch ends at a prime factor. Remember, 2 is PRIME 24 24 • 4 • 6 OR 2 12 • • • 2 2 6 3 2 2 • 2 3 24 = 3 • 2 • 2 • 2 24 = 2 • 2 • 2 • 3 The prime factorization of 24 is 2 • 2 • 2 • 3, or 23 • 3.

  16. Practice Prime factorization of 32

  17. Prime Factorization Challenge

  18. Working Backwards

  19. What Did Dora Do wrong? 48 2 • 24 12 •2 6•2 3•2 Answer: 2• 3

  20. Agree or Disagree • The prime factorization of 24 would be 2 x 3 x 4 • 233 is divisible by 4 because the numbers add up to 8 • The factors of 18 include 1,2,3,6,8, and 18 • 63 is divisible by 7 • Ms. Evans is from Minnesota

  21. What is it? Greatest Common Factor (GCF)- is the greatest (largest) of the common factors of two or more numbers GCF must be SMALLER or equal to the largest of the two numbers

  22. There are 2 methods to finding the GCF Method #1 The Listing Method

  23. Practice Find the GCF of 18 and 24 • 18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 • Common factors: 1, 2, 3, and 6 • The GREATEST common factor is 6!

  24. Method #2 The Slide Method

  25. What it Looks Like 24 and 36

  26. Practice Find GCF of: 48 and 72

  27. What if we have more than 2 numbers? • Use the slide method! • Do two numbers at a time 16, 12 and 24

  28. Practice 24, 32 and 48

  29. Multiples • Multiples of a number must be equal to or LARGER than a number • List the first 5 multiples of 3. • 3, 6, 9, 12, 15

  30. Question of the Day What should I check first when finding the least common multiple?

  31. LCM • Least Common Multiple- is the least (smallest) of the common multiples of two or more numbers *When finding the LCM you should always look to see if your largest number is the LCM

  32. What it Looks Like 18 and 24

  33. Practice Find the LCM of 18 and 24

  34. Word Problems • Think: am I finding a number larger or smaller than the ones they gave me? • Smaller: GCF Larger: LCM • DRAW IT OUT • When you find your answer think: does this answer make sense?

  35. #1 Pencils come in packages of 10. Erasers come in packages of 12. Phillip wants to purchase the smallest number of pencils and erasers so that he will have exactly 1 eraser per pencil. How many packages of pencils and erasers should Phillip buy?

  36. #3 Boxes that are 12 inches tall are being stacked next to boxes that are 18 inches tall. What is the shortest height at which the two stacks will be the same height?
