  2. What’s new for 2005? • No NEW chip ……..Perfect Pass version 6.5 is approved for both 2004 and 2005. Technically: • 2004 -- PP 6.5 v .04 • 2005 -- PP 6.5 n v.01 • 2005 -- PP 6.5 n DBW v.01 (MASTERCRAFT) • DBW – Drive By Wire ( Electronic throttle ) MasterCraft only • Name Feature added

  3. Electronic Throttle • Throttle is all electronic – potentiometers at the handle throttle send a signal to the engine control module (ECM) and to the PerfectPass Control module. (No throttle cable) • PefectPass servo motor eliminated. • End result - Speed is more consistent

  4. Electronic ThrottleMaster Module • New Master Control Module • Same connectors for Display (or second display), Smart Timers and line switch • Chips for the Digital Pro Master Module will NOT work in the DBW module

  5. Electronic ThrottleServo Motor • Servo is integrated with the throttle body • No cable to bind or adjust

  6. Electronic ThrottleEngagement • Engagement point will feel different. With the mechanical Digital Pro module, servo “spool out” occurred at 2500 rpm. With the DBW electronic throttle, all engagement occurs at the rpm set point for the particular skier. You can expect a slight RPM drop at engagement • Therefore, it is desirable to engage the DBW early in the skier set up.

  7. Electronic ThrottleEngagement • Slalom – ideally come up to set point – controls at .6 sec @ 36mph to 2 ½ sec @ 26. • Jump – push throttle to engagement – then push throttle to near wide open - controls at 1 ½ seconds after engagement • Tricks – Use tach to bring boat to desired speed quickly – do not over or under shoot

  8. Electronic ThrottleOverride • The system has the ability to over ride the intended speed by pushing the throttle forward. • In slalom and tricks, once the system is engaged, the over ride is initiated by moving the throttle a measured distance. In jump, it is initiated by the rate of handle movement. • In slalom, there is a built in delay before the system engages to facilitate getting to the intended speed rapidly and to provide for pulling up larger skiers at slower speeds. The delay is longer at the slower speeds

  9. Setting up Your New Boat • Generally check out your boat (steering, rudder load, switch cable, etc) • Make certain you boat has the over-ride capability • Check YOUR smart timers – location and strength • Suggest that you do an entire system reset so that YOU can validate all values • Set the separate RPM baselines for slalom and jump; and speed based slalom and tricks. Confirm that the paddle wheel is working properly

  10. Setting up Your Boat • System Reset – To reset the entire system back to original factory values, press & hold ON/OFF & MENU Keys together as you turn key on to power PerfectPass. Continue holding for a few seconds until [ System Reset ^ = Yes ] appears. Then simply answer questions as they appear. • Engine Selection – On initial start up or during a system reset, PerfectPass will ask whether you have a big block 6 or 8.1 liter or a standard 5.7 liter engine. This will appear as [ 6.0 / 8.1 L ^ = Yes ] This means press up for the big block, down for all others. • Confirm if correct engine was selected, press Menu & Up Keys together to get into back ground screen. Following battery voltage, etc you will see which engine was selected. If incorrect, perform a system reset.

  11. Smart Timers • When you set up a boat, ensure both your smart timers are in good working order. Check each Smart Timer – With ABT, using the magnet test mode, go one direction thru the course then the opposite way. If you have readings that are consistently weaker in one direction, you MAY have a weak Smart Timer. • Both Smart Timers need to be pointed in the SAME direction according to magnet polarity. Magnet – north up – arrow forward. • Make certain that the Smart Timers are directly across from each other at the widest possible location at each side of the boat.

  12. Magnets • Timing Magnets are the ‘life blood’ for any speed control system. They ensure the accuracy (time) for the desired speed, but also control system function (slalom - gate up and SSB) (Jump - timing and duration of the pull to the ramp in the first segment and duration in the second segment) • All Magnets must be oriented the same - North UP or South Up (makes no difference) – NOTE : At 36MPH one wrong magnet translate up to 4 ½ foot error. At 36MPH 1 foot equals .02 seconds. A 4 ½ foot error translates to .09 seconds. • MAKE CERTAIN A MAGNET TEST HAS BEEN DONE prior to the start of the tournament. It is also advisable to check anytime a buoy comes out in the middle of an event. • All magnets should have a reading of 30 or higher for slalom and 50 or higher for jump . Also, each magnet should be + 5 of each other. • All magnets should be at the same depth to minimize erroneous readings.

  13. • Watch for false timing system triggers. You can reset the timing/system by pressing the UP “/\” button prior to the start of the course. • Turn off all cell phones and stay off the radio when the system is engaged.

  14. Mph Kph 36.0 58.0 34.2 55.0 32.3 52.0 RPM BASED 30.4 49.0 28.6 46.0 26.7 43.0 24.9 40.0 23.0 37.0 21.1 34.0 19.3 31.0 SPEED BASED 17.4 28.0 15.5 25.0 All speeds are based in kilometers Speeds ABOVE23 MPH are RPM based and each baseline must be individually set Speeds AT23 MPH and below are speed based (controlled by the paddle wheel) and must be calibrated at each speed or by MASTER Calibration (Master calibration will also calibrate trick speeds) Slalom

  15. RPM Adjust RPM Based Slalom = Skier Weight Crew Weight Baseline RPM • RPM Adjust – Added RPM to compensate for wind, current and line shortening (add 10 RPM for every 5 MPH Wind, add 5 RPM for each rope shortening 38 off beyond) • Skier Weight – Enter skier weight (system will add 1 RPM for every pound • Crew Weight – Enter total weight of crew and any additional gear (system will add 15 RPM for every 100 lbs) • Baseline RPM – RPM required to run the boat at the desired speed with NO crew or skier

  16. Slalom - RPM • Example: Required RPM to pull a 200 lb slalom skier 36mph, including a 500 lb crew, and a 10 adjust for the wind is: 3885 RPM RPM Adjust – wind 10 RPM Skier Weight – 200lbs = 200 RPM Crew Weight – 500lbs = 75 RPM Baseline RPM @ 36mph 3600 RPM

  17. Slalom - Speed Based • At 37 KPH/23 MPH and below the system uses the paddle wheel to determine actual speed, rather than using engine RPM. • The system will ask for “New Skier” information. Make certain you input the skier settings if there is any chance the skier will exceed 23 mph – otherwise, the system will not function properly as it transitions to RPM based slalom. • There is NO RPM Adjustment using the paddle wheel – rather any incremental speed adjustments can be made with the /\ key or \/ key in +/- .1 kph adjustments.

  18. Tournament Mode • Tournament Mode is mandatory use in all tournaments • First screen – displays RPM adjust, skier weight, KX, PX, and requested speed. • Skier Weight (lbs) switches to display engine RPM as the rpm increases above idle. Indicated speed switches to actual speed as paddle wheel begins to turn. • As timing is activated, the screen will display the total cumulative time and will update at each point the boat passes the next magnet. • System will automatically return to the main screen once the throttle is engaged & engine RPM increases above idle

  19. SLALOM MODE [ 165 r 730 34.2 ] [ +.00 16.95 OK ] [ SPEED 55k = 34.2 ] [ v = KX, PX ^ = SSB ] [ SLALOM ^ = jmp ] [ RECAL 34.2 ^ = Y ] [ RPM @ 34.2 3450 ] [ WIND ADJ 000 ] [ CREW ADJ 420 ] TOURNAMENT MODE [ + 00 165 +5 34.2 ] [ +.00 16.95 OK ] [ SPEED 55k = 34.2 ] [ WEIGHT lbs 165 ] [ v = KX, PX ^ = CRW+ ] Slalom ScreensTournament Mode / Regular Mode Move between modes by pressing the UP ad DOWN arrows at the same time

  20. SlalomMain Screen – RPM Adjust • Can validate skiers weight, KX, PX and requested speed prior to engagement. • Only adjustable parameter is RPM Adjust RPM to compensate for: • For every 5 MPH of wind add 10 rpm • Time on the slow side of actual - add 5 RPM for every .02 sec • As the rope gets shorter add 5 rpm/line length • Open Men starting @ 32 off (add +20 to 30 rpm to start • Heavy skier (190 lbs) starting at 26.7MPH long line (subtract 30 rpm) • Large shaped skis (less rpm)

  21. SlalomTiming Screen • First displays the Full Course Time; then the split times • The system automatically returns to main screen after display of all times. • The system ignores any missing magnets between the entrance and exit gates other that the 3rd ball magnet which is necessary for second segment balance

  22. Timing screen - ABT • Press the \/ (DOWN) button at anytime to bet ABT. Doing so will stop the timing process at that point. • Continue to push \/ button to get additional segment times • No “Fall Button” for 2005

  23. SlalomRecall Previous Times • The system will store the current slalom pass (ABT) and one prior slalom pass • To access the prior set of times – Turn the system OFF button (DO NOT shut off the engine as ALL times will be LOST!) • One the system is OFF, press \/ and /\ simultaneously and you will see -- Previous Times ^=Y • Press /\ key to access the full course time • Then press the \/ key to get ABT

  24. SlalomSpeed Screen • Set skiers requested speed. • Speeds are shown in both KPH and MPH.

  25. SlalomWeight Screen • Enter Skiers exact weight. • Do NOT adjust the skiers weight to compensate for wind current, line length, etc

  26. [ v = KX, PX ^ = CRW + ] • Press up “/\” = for all boat adjustments – crew weight, SSB, RPM offset • Press down “\/” = for all skier adjustments – KX and PX

  27. SlalomCrew Weight • Enter total weight of crew and any additional gear. • The system will add 15 RPM for every 100 lbs of crew. • A calculator is available by pressing down \/ & up /\ buttons at the same time. It will ask for the individual weight of each person

  28. SlalomSSB - Second Segment Balance • Percentage of skier RPM that is removed, progressively, starting at ball 3, to prevent faster second segment times (unbalanced segments). • Driver adjustable during event to keep both segments at actual times. • Setting is lower with gear reduction boats (7-15) since gear reduction boats are able to hold a more constant speed. • Setting is higher with “1:1” boats (15-25)

  29. RPM Offset • The RPM OFFSET is to be used to lower or raise the baseline to compensate when the skiers actual weight does not produce an actual time. • The offset feature will allow you to input the skiers actual weight. • RPM Offset provides for specific baseline adjustments at 58K/36MPH, 55k/34MPH and 52K/32MPH and below. • The Offset feature does not impact the initial calibration of any baseline speeds. Any RPM offset adjustment is made to the baseline only after any skier weight has been added.

  30. SlalomKX • KX is a skier adjustable value. Tournament officials will leave the setting at “KX Normal” unless a skier requests a different setting. Skier may change the KX setting once after the first pass. • KX does NOT affect the boat’s average speed. It does affect the timing of the pull. • Too low a KX - the pull feels late and may be pulling the skier coming into the buoy. • Too high a KX – the skier may feel the boat too soon coming out of the buoy.

  31. SlalomKX • KX Normal will provide a throttle response and pull considered ideal for most tournament skiers. (KX is no longer weight skier sensitive) • The other KX settings are: • KX+ provides a slightly more immediate throttle response in the pull. • KX++ provides even more immediate throttle response than KX+. • KX- provides a more delayed throttle response than the Normal position.

  32. SlalomPX • PX setting controls the amount of additional RPM applied when the slalom switch senses the skier in a strong pulling position. This touch of RPM helps the skier accelerate. When the RPM is removed after the second wake, the skier can be wider and earlier to turn the next buoy • PX 000 – eliminates the switch. ZERO is the default setting (switch OFF) unless the skier asks for some other setting

  33. Speed CalibrationMaster Re-calibration • Master Recal process will calibrate all slalom speed based settings after a single pass • Select 19.3MPH/31KPH. Drive thru the slalom course and do a Typical Re-cal for 19.3/31. MPH KPH 23.0 37.0 21.1 34.0 19.3 31.0 Select 17.4 28.0 15.5 25.0

  34. Speed CalibrationMaster Re-calculation • Automatically asks – Master Recal ? /\ = YES MPH KPH 23.0 37.0 21.1 34.0 19.3 31.0 17.4 28.0 15.5 25.0

  35. Speed CalibrationMaster Re-calibration • Trick Re-cal /\ = YES • Re-cal DONE • All slalom speeds are set • All trick speeds are set

  36. Speed Based CalibrationMaster Re-calibration • 19.3MPH/31KPH speed is re-cal’ed and speedo is re-cal’ed

  37. SlalomWait Time • In slalom mode, turn the system OFF • Press \/ and /\ simultaneously and you will see -- Previous Times ^=Y • Press MENU once • Set at 40 to 45 seconds (the system will BEEP at 40 to 45 seconds after it last measured the end gates.

  38. Slalom Parameters SLALOM - Before the start of the Slalom event

  39. Slalom Parameters Skier Input for Slalom Event

  40. Slalom Parameters During Slalom event Place the system in tournament mode operation by pressing up and down keys together. Display will show RPM adjust value, skier weight and setting speed. Press up and down keys to return to normal mode.

  41. JumpChanges • X8u and x8d are made visible behind CT (counter cut time) • X8u (UP) controls the timing of when the additional RPM is added once the jump switch closes. The higher the number, the longer the delay • X8d (DOWN) controls the timing of the rpm drop in the second segment. The higher the number, the longer it will take for the boat to begin controlling speed. • Both of these values will be “set” by each manufacturer by June 1 and published on the AWSA Speed Control Website.

  42. RPM Adjust Jump – RPM Based Jump Letter Crew Weight Baseline RPM • RPM Adjust – Added RPM to compensate for wind and current. Also, you may have to use RPM adjust to adjust the baseline (typically lower with longer distance jumpers 150 feet +) • Jump Letter – Enter skier weight and the distance the skier is expected to jump TODAY. The system will select the appropriate jump letter • Crew Weight – Enter total weight of crew and any additional gear (system will add 15 RPM for every 100 lbs) • Baseline RPM – RPM required to run the boat at the desired speed with NO crew or skier

  43. Jump - RPM • Example: Required RPM required to a 170 lb, 200 foot jumper, including a 500 lb crew, and a 10 adjust for the wind is: 4325 RPM RPM Adjust – wind 10 RPM Jump letter T = 740 RPM Skier Weight (170lbs–zero rpm) Crew Weight – 500lbs = 75 RPM Baseline RPM @ 35mph 3500 RPM

  44. REGULAR MODE [ JUMP K^ 720 33.6 ] [ 5.47 2.73 OK ] [ ADJUST 00 RPM ] [ SPEED ADJ 33.6 ] [ v = S2% ^ = NEW JMPR ] [ JUMP ^ = trk ] [ RECAL 33.6 ^ = Y ] [ RPM 33.6 3270 ] [ CREW ADJ ] TOURNAMENT MODE [ + 00 K FAST 33.6 ] [ v = S2% ^ = NEW JMPR ] [ LETTER K FAST ] [ 5.47 2.73 OK ] [ JUMP ^ = trk ] [ RECAL 33.6 ^ = Y ] [ RPM @ 33.6 3270 ] [ CREW ADJ 420 ] Jump ScreensTournament / Regular Jump tournament mode is NOT mandatory.

  45. JumpMain Screen • Tournament mode is available – but not mandatory. • Tournament mode changes the screen sequence and moves RPM adjust to the front screen • Jump “Letter” is adjustable on the main screen

  46. JumpTournament Mode • RPM Adjust is on Main Screen • Jump letter adjust moves to screen 3

  47. JumpNew Jumper 4 Sub Screens: • Speed • Skier Weight (lbs) • Distance (feet) • Fast Second Segment

  48. JumpFaster Second Segment & Return to Baseline • Faster Second Segment - If you selected the faster 2nd segment, the screen will indicate “FAST” in Tournament Mode or add the icon “ ^ “ next to the letter in the Regular Mode [+ 00 K FAST 35.4 ] or [ JUMP  R^  35.4 ] • Return to Baseline -  If you selected no to the faster 2nd segment, the system will return to baseline RPM.  The system will temporarily reduce the S2% to 0.  You can manually adjust the S2% value “faster or slower” from the initial RTB zero setting.

  49. JumpS2% and S2fine RPM • S2% - Percent of additional RPM (jump letter) that remains above the baseline to maintain a faster second segment • S2fine RPM - fine adjust for the 2nd segment.  It comes set at 0, which means no affect.  A number such as 30 would increase the 2nd segment by 30 rpm.  Example: A jumper that does not cut and does not fully activate the switch may require extra rpm in the 2nd segment to keep the 2nd segment in tolerance.
