Portugal and the IYA 009 António Pedrosa Portuguese Astronomical Society

The Portuguese Astronomical Society, led by António Pedrosa, is supervising the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA). The society has formed a committee to plan and report on activities and budget. They aim to promote science and astronomy at international, national, and local levels, with a focus on engaging young people and schools. Initial steps include presenting the report to the government, creating a website, and organizing a conference. Activities will include exhibitions, public light shutdown, and promoting existing public astronomy events.
