  12. Google Earth The Interface Information in Google Earth is presented in placemarks. These are the push-pins or other icons that you click on when you are using Google Earth. Clicking on a placemark opens a placemark window, and displays the associated content. Placemarks can hold many different types of information: • Text • Image • Hyperlinks to other Web content • YouTube video (only on PC machines) • Other specialized Web content, such as podcasts (from Evoca.com) and PowerPoint files (Slideshare.net)

  13. Google Earth Cheat Sheet Adding text to Placemark: Once you create the placemark, right click on the placemark and click on Get Info. Type in what youʼd like to be seen once one clicks on the placemark. Adding a Hyperlink to Placemark: As with adding text, right click on the placemark and click on Get Info. Paste in the URL of the hyperlink, which means you need to go to the site first copy the url then go back to your placemark in Google Earth. Once one clicks on the hyperlink, the viewer will see the blue hyperlink. Creating the Link to the Picture on the Web: 1. Find the picture on the web. NOTE: In order to avoid scrolling, avoid using file sizes over 600 x 600. 2. Right click on the image and click on Copy Image Location 3. Right click on the placemark and click on Get Info. 4.Type in <img src=” and then paste in the URL (Control / V) and finish the link by adding “> at the end of the URL. Ex: <img src= “http://l.yimg.com/g/images/home_photo_welshboy.jpg”>

  14. Saving Your Tour: (Saving as a .kmz will embed the images!) 1. Click on tour folder or placemark. 2. Click on File / Save / Save as (Pick the location and save it!) Embedding Video: For those sites that display embedding code, simply copy the code and paste it inside the placemark. For example, YouTube posts the code on the right side of the screen under the url of the video. Copy this html and paste it into the placemark in Google Earth.

  15. Now it's time to jump over to Google Earth. Open up Earth, locate the area in the world where you wish to place the placemark, and go to the upper menu bar, and create a new placemark.
