  1. Nottingham City Towards HealthwatchTogether

  2. What is Healthwatch? Healthwatch will be the new consumer champion for health and social care. Nottingham City Healthwatch will start in April 2013. Meanwhile, the people of Nottingham are being invited to help to build the Healthwatch that they want to see.

  3. The aim of Healthwatch is to give citizens and communities a stronger voice to influence and challenge how health and social care services are provided locally. Local Healthwatch will have a national voice as it will have a channel to Healthwatch England to influence national policy, advice and guidance.

  4. Nottingham City LINk is working closely with the HELP team to find out what your priorities are and what you want Nottingham’s Healthwatch to be. Nottingham Healthwatchwill: Signpost, Influence, Challenge and Champion. It will aim to be representative of all elements of Nottingham’s communities. .

  5. HELP is a partnership of four local third sector organisations, experienced in engagement, who have joined together to develop Nottingham’s Healthwatch model. We are: HLG, Self Help Nottingham, AWAAZ and Independent Voices for Engagement The partnership’s emphasis is on engagement to deliver a Healthwatch organisation for Nottingham which is designed by and for its people, especially those whose voices are not always heard.

  6. Why you should get involved n You will contribute to building the Nottingham Healthwatch that you want. n Nottingham Healthwatch will influence local and national decision-making. n You can use Healthwatch to challenge health and social care issues and decisions. n Healthwatch is there for all Nottingham City residents.

  7. How you can get involved n Fill in and return a ‘Register your Interest’ form and you’ll be kept up to date with all of HELP Nottingham’s activities. n Participate in meetings, events and focus groups to have your say and share your views. n Visit our website and give us your views. n Tell your family, friends and neighbours that Healthwatch is coming, and signpost them to us.

  8. What’s happening now? n Right now the HELP team are going to meetings, events and activities across Nottingham to tell people that Healthwatch is coming. n We are asking our partners, colleagues and friends in the community to spread the word about the development of Nottingham Healthwatch.

  9. How can you help? n Tell us if you would like to know more. n Tell us how you would like to get involved. n Tell us if you run a group or network, and would like us to send you an information pack to share. 10. National Context n Health and Social Care Bill 2011; the white paper Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS, which proposes Healthwatch as part of a raft of NHS reforms. n Healthwatch is the successor to the LINk n Healthwatch learns from the experience of the LINKs to give a consistent identity to the scheme, more inclusive representation from local communities and clarity about roles.
