  1. Timelines College or Career, Junior Year is a great time to get organized!

  2. Create a system! On your handout write one job or college related goal for this year.

  3. Designate a day Pick one day in the week, or once a month as the day you devote a few minutes or an hour to prepare for one piece of your career or college timeline. Edit a resume; add a name or two to your list of references; scan media for upcoming events or ‘must dos’, write a prospecting letter, research a university or two.

  4. Checklist for career related goals. Choose one appropriate action and write it next to your job goal along with a target date. • Track career trends in your area. • Scout out job fairs as an opportunity to talk with employers. • LinkedIn for professional networking. • Have copies of a current resume and template for a cover letter. • Keep an accurate list of references. • Consider transportation logistics. • Write prospecting letters to employers that interest you.

  5. If it’s college you are focused on: • Now do the same for college related goal. Select one activity for fall or spring and choose a target date for completion. Fall Think about schools that interest you/research universities. Start a list of people you will ask to write letters of recommendation. Spring Register for and take SAT. Visit college campuses. Schedule interviews with admission office staff. Research colleges on social media sites. Summer Take enrichment courses. Finalize choice of colleges. Start thinking about your admission essays.

  6. Know what’s coming and keep cool!
