  2. SCOPE • Non-Packet Switch Capable Networks • Fiber switch capable • Lambda switch capable • Circuit switch capable • Signaling protocol refers to G-MPLS • Convergence between • work done at the OIF and at IETF • Intra-domain and Inter-domain NNI specifications

  3. Main Principles and Approaches • This proposal covers: • MCT Approach: Management - Control - Transport Planeswith de-coupled and tightly-coupled address spaces. • Centralized (Control point) and Distributed Signaling • Intra-Domain (IaDI) NNI and Inter-Domain (IrDI) NNI • Trusted and Untrusted NNI interfaces • Protocol implementation independent (signaling, routing, and other specific mechanisms) • In-band, out-of-band, and out-of-network signaling transport • Scalable and flexible

  4. MCT Approach Management Plane Management Channels Control Channels Control Plane Transport Channels Transport Plane Distributed

  5. Topology and resource Distribution (TrD) The draft describes: • Discovery Functions • Logical link Resource, Service and Address discovery • Flooding Scope • Service Discovery (Link local advertisement) • Intra-area summary advertisements • Inter-area summary advertisements • Advertisements including • Identification information (only for link local advertisements) • Resource information (available and min-max reservable FB[Priority]) • Protection information (levels, groups, status and associated priority) • Logical link G.LSP inclusion set (routing diversity)

  6. Requirements for a Signaling Protocol • Robust and Scalable • Model independent • Specification of G-LSP resources • G-LSP create/modify/delete/status request and response • Flexibility in G-LSP creation options • Support of G-LSP priority/preemption • Protected G-LSP creation and Restoration capabilities • Availability, Security and Performance of the Signaling channels (max RTT for a given payload size)

  7. NNI Signaling Parameters • Source and Destination ID • Source and Destination VPoN ID • Carrier ID (Inter-domain) • G-LSP ID • Explicit route and Record route (optional) • Directionality (optional) • Priority - Preemption (optional) • Bandwidth-Framing[priority] • Protection[priority] (optional) • SDH/Sonet or Optical Parameter (optional) • Routing Diversity-related information (optional)

  10. Next Steps • Improve procedures (fault-tolerance, protection and restoration) • Enhance diversity-related flooding • Extensions for multi-wavelength connections • Add state-diagrams for signaling and topology & resource distribution mechanisms • Inter-domain routing extensions

  11. CONCLUSION • NNI signaling is required for G-LSPs spanning multi-carrier networks • Covers all different types of optical networks (e.g. SDH/Sonet, OXC, PXC based networks) • Compatible with G-MPLS paradigmAllows extending G-MPLS to multi-domain networks • Consistent with the work done at the OIF This should facilitate easy transition
