  4. Proposals distribution over the main topics ●Data processing:1 ●Data analysis & modelling:4 ●Databases / Catalogues creation:2 ●Laboratory support of planetary & space missions: Spectrometry (7); Astrobiology (4); Ephemerides (2); Analog materials / condition simulation (3); Virtual Plasma Laboratory (1) ●Planetary environments: Atmospheres (4); Magnetospheres / radiations (4); Surfaces-interiors / small bodies / dust (6) ●Planetary geodesy / cartography:1 ●Space missions: User operation support (1); Manned planetary exploration (1); Preparation of future missions (2); ●Observations: Radio astronomy in planetary science (3); Coordinated observations (2) ●Public outreach:1 ●Comparative Planetology:3

  5. Some Drawbacks ●Multiple submissions -- Some teams (4) propose several infrastructure activities (JRA / TNA / NA) with very similar titles and content ●Undefined teams --Many proposals (24) have no defined team of an infrastructure participants ●Undefined (or wrong defined) type of infrastructure activity: - Some proposals (13) are not identified as a particular infrastructure activity (JRA, TNA or NA) - Several proposals have incorrectly defined their type ●Research-focused proposals -- Many proposals (10) are focused on doing just a scientific research but not on building an infrastructure I3 can not support research projects! It supports development of cooperating infrastructures The term “research infrastructures” refers to facilities, resources and related services that are used by the scientific community to conduct top-level research in their respective fields.

I II III IV Data Acquisition Data Processing & Storage Knowledge Application & Demonstration Knowledge Acquisition = Data analysis & modelling Calibration, Cleaning, Filtering, etc. Databases Space- & Ground- based observations Theoretical / statistical analysis, Modelling & Interpretation Communication, Public outreach, Publications New questions & tasks LabMeasurements Numerical simulation Main categories in the tentative general scheme for proposal structuring

  7. Tentative overall structure of Europlanet in FP7 Infrastructure activities of EUROPLANET in FP7 will be grouped in the following interrelated topical blocks: • Space missions infrastructure • Earth-based observations / measurements • Laboratory facilities / field sites • Data processing / architecture • Software tools for Data analysis / Modelling / Numerical Simulations • Communication / Public outreach

  8. Further preparations for FP7 • Call report and proposals classification (MK) by 02/07 • Workshop agenda and timetable (MB) by 02/07 • Telecon with proposers (Feb. 16, 3 to 5 pm) • EPN Strategic Workshop (Feb. 26-27, ESTEC) • Informal exchange with H.
