  2. Present Subjunctive: -ar & -er stem changing verbs • The stem-changing –ar and –er verbs (Boot Verbs) we learned in the present indicative (present tense) follow the same pattern of changes in the present subjunctive.

  3. e - ie Pensar Es importante que pienses mucho. It is important for you to think hard.

  4. o-ue Poder Es posible que podamos salir esta noche. It’s possible that we can go out tonight.

  5. Present Subjunctive Stem Changing –ir verbs • The e-i stem changing –ir verbs we learned in the present indicative (present tense) follow the same changes in the present subjuntive, BUT IN ALL FORMS. Pedir (e-i) Seguir (e-i)

  6. The e-ie and o-ue stem changing –ir verbs you learned in the present indicative (present tense) follow the same changes in the present subjuntive. e-ie, i, o-ue, u-ue. Divertir (e-ie), I dormir (o-ue, u)

  7. Expressions of Persuasion • The present subjunctive is used after expressions of persuasion, when someone is advising, insisting on, recommending, suggesting, etc. a certain course of action to someone else. • Common verbs of persuasion: • aconsejar to advise • insistir en to insist (on) • pedir (e-i) to ask (a favor) • preferir (e-ie,i) to prefer • querer (e-ie) to want (someone to do something) • recomendar (e-ie) to recommend • sugerir (e-ie, i) to suggest
