  14. Selecting yourPhysical Education/ Health class • If your last name begins with A through M, select 1st semester PE (50111) and 2nd semester Health (50110). If you plan to be in marching band, select first semester Health (50110) and second semester PE (50112). • If your last name begins with N through Z or you plan to be in Marching Band, select first semester Health (50110) and second semester PE (50112). • If you are placed in special education health*, select 59111 and 59112 plus one additional semester of PE (50111 or 50112). *placement will be made by your MS PI.

Now select yourElectives • Classes which end in “0” meet either semester • Classes which end in “1” meet first semester • Classes which end in “2” meet second semester • Class with a second digit of “9” are special education courses. • Make sure you select both semesters of a year long course(i.e. TV 160, foreign language, band, choir, Business Tech, Family and Consumer Science, Intro to Ag, Intro to Art).Your course planning guide will tell you whether a course meets for a semester or year long. In the next slides, if two numbers are listed, the class meets both semesters.

  16. Directions for students registering for Band • Register for Band (select 60001 & 60002) • Students who do not want to take Marching Band, must select Band (60001) and notify one of the band directors that you plan to be in Concert Band 1st quarter.

Elective Selectionsin Social Studies • World History to 1350 (first semester class/select 40121) • World History since 1350 (second semester class/select 40112) • World History Honors * (select 40121 and 40122) *placement based on the recommendation of MS Social Studies Department. If you select honors and you are not recommended for honors, you will be placed into World History to 1350 and World History since 1350. World History is not a graduation requirement - it is only a freshman elective which can be used to complete the semester of social studies for graduation and is one or two additional credits for college entrance (see slide #4 & #5).

  24. Study Hall • You may take one or two semesters of study hall. • First semester study hall (90121). Special Education Homework Assistance (90011). • Second semester study hall (90122). Special Education Homework Assistance (90012).

  25. Meetings at theMiddle School • Counselors will meet with the entire 8th grade class, tomorrow, February 5 to distribute registration materials. • Students and Parents can begin to enter course requests on February 7. • Counselors will return to the middle school on February 14 to check the computer entries and collect registration sheets.

  26. Recommendation Letters • A mailing will be sent from the Middle School with recommendations for each student in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies on March 7, 2008. • Select those classes you wish to enroll in and the necessary modifications will be made after March 7. Do not ask for or expect a decision until March regarding English, Math, Science or Social Studies placement.

  27. Directions for Completing Registration • Students will be selecting courses for next year online, at home, beginning February 7. • Make sure you select at least 12 credits entered under “courses requested”. • To begin the process, you will log onto the Family Access page using either the parent or student access. Follow the steps on the next frame. • Once in family access, you will need to change the tab at the top of the page from the middle school to the high school. Then the tab will appear for “08-09 scheduling”.

  28. Directions for Completing Registrationcontinued • 1. Go to “Courses for 2008 – 2009 “ (left side of column) • 2. Click “Update Request” (Middle of Page) • 3. Highlight the course (Follow your Registration Worksheet for choices) • 4. Click on “Add Course” • 5. After all courses have been selected, go to “selected” tab to verify choices. • 6. Print this page • 7. Attach this to your registration sheet, which must be signed by a parent • 8. Log out

  29. Final Directions • Please do not request your “alternates” in online registration. Write them in the third column of the pink registration page. • Attach a copy of your course requests to your pink page (print from your Skyward account).

  30. Signature Page • Your pink registration page must have a student signature and a parent signature.
