What is Title I and how does it effect Gray Elementary? • Title I is a federally funded program that provides public schools with high percentages of economically disadvantaged children to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards. • It is a school where at least 35 percent of the children in the school (more than one third) are from low-income families.  This is determined by the number of children who are eligible to receive free and reduced-price lunch at the school.  • Over half of all schools in Georgia are designated as Title I.

What is Title I and how does it effect Gray Elementary? • Gray Elementary has benefited a great deal from Title I. • Two certified teachers and three paraprofessional for supplemental education services • Supplemental teaching supplies • Smart Boards • Parent Center and Parent Center supplies • Parent Coordinator • Parent Workshop opportunities

Parent Rights Under Title I • The purpose of the Parent Services Unit (PSU) is to ensure that all parents in Georgia are aware of and have full access to services that fall under Title 1, and that all Title 1 children in Georgia receive the assistance needed to achieve academic success in school. • The purpose of parental involvement under Title I is to promote active engagement among local school officials and staff, education leaders, technical assistance providers, parents, parent advocacy organizations, parental involvement coordinators/ liaisons, and others working to improve student achievement and learning.

Georgia PIRC (Parent Involvement Resource Center) • http://georgiapirc.net/default.aspx • The purpose of the PIRC program, as established by the US Department of Education, is to help implement successful and effective parental involvement policies, programs, and activities that lead to improvements in student academic achievement and strengthen partnerships among parents, teachers, principals, administrators, and other school personnel in meeting the educational needs of children.

  6. Title I services vs. EIP services • EIP students / teachers • Students scored below 800 on the Reading or Math sections of the CRCT or checklisted in by their homeroom teacher. • Students are serviced for 45-55 minutes a day within the classroom or pulled out to another room during the Intervention/Enrichment period. • EIP teachers have a set group of students all year.

  7. Title I services vs. EIP services • Title I students/teachers • We are Title I School Wide school. That means that any child can be serviced by a Title I teacher or paraprofessional that is having difficulty with a particular skill or subject. • Title I student groups are flexible groups and change often.
