Alcohol , the #1 highway safety problem. 38% of all highway deaths are a result of alcohol impaired drivers. The good news (if there is any) is that 2/3 of those killed are the impaired driver. Not the other persons. That still leaves about 4,000 innocent victims each year.
Under the oldDUI laws in NC, officers had to prove that drivers were
“Driving Under the Influence".
NC's new (1983) DWI law, only requires that a driver be above the legal
BAC (.08) limit to be Driving While Impaired.
This allows for road blocks such as "Booze it and Lose it". There isno probable cause necessary stop, charge and convict. Only BAC.
