  5. Basic Spatial Data • 7 919,4 m2- 14% of HR space • 10 border crossings to HU • 2001 - 548 362 citizens • 13 cities and 70 settlements • population density 66,77 p/m2 - HR 78,4 p/m2 • protected natural heritage - 458 units

Traffic polarization • Depopulation • Impoverishment of the settlement network • Rural exodus • Regional centralization • Natura 2000 – Drava River • Kopacki rit – Nature park; Papuk - Geopark • TEN Corridor 5c • Differences in population density west to east • Infrastructure corridors – TEN, no TEN • Gravitation of the western part towards Zagreb Overall territorial trends Specific territorial features Regional and cross – borderdisparities

Findings so far… • Strong vertical alignment from top to bottom – key themes of national strategy dominant in regional plans • Economic sector involved in making some strategies - not physical planning • National HR Strategy(1997) dates before ESDP - need for a fresh one • No data basis on cross border cooperation

  11. What should we do • Define HR - HU gaps and matches • Include findings of Matrioscaa, Estia-Spose and other territorial projects • Sketch a joint map with recommendations for a cross-border • cooperation in spatial planning • Have a good time together! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION!
