  1. BUT IT WAS SOOOTED! withAMA0330 PART ONE INTRODUCTION

  2. WELCOME! • In this video… • Draws for beginners • What is a draw • Things to think about when you have a draw • How to play draws profitably

  3. WHAT IS A DRAW? • A draw: • Is a hand which is currently most likely to be ranked behind the hand of our opponent • has a certain number of cards which will improve it to a better hand and • If these cards hit, will almost certainly rank our new hand ahead of our opponents hand

  4. AN INCOMPLETE HAND • You can think of a draw as being an “incomplete” hand • The hand is missing its essential pieces (cards) which must be “hit” on the turn or the river • The hand will become very powerful when complete and will most likely win us the pot

  5. SOME COMMON DRAWS • Flush draw

  6. SOME COMMON DRAWS • Straight draw

  7. SOME COMMON DRAWS • Combination draw

  8. WHAT DO WE THINK OF? • When playing draws, we must remember that we currently do not have the best hand • That means, we need to improve our hand with a favourable card on the turn or river • Its very important that we understand how many cards left in the deck will improve our hand • This will help us to determine whether or not we can profitably continue

  9. WHAT DO WE THINK OF? • We need to take account of our • Outs • Pot odds • Drawing odds

  10. COUNTING OUTS • Your “outs” are the cards which are available for you to hit on the turn or river to complete your hand • The more outs you have, the stronger your hand is, and the more profitable it will be to continue • Outs must be calculated with respect to your pot odds (we’ll get to that in a second)

  11. FLUSH DRAW

  12. STRAIGHT DRAW

  13. TWO OVERCARDS

  14. MEMORISING YOUR OUTS • There are some common draw situations in which you simply have to commit your outs to memory • These common situations are: • Flush draw – 9 outs • Straight draw – 8 outs • Two overcards – 6 outs • One overcard – 3 outs • Knowing these simple outs by heart will help you make rapid on the spot calculations when you are playing HANDY NOTE! In a deck of cards: There are 4 of each number and 13 of each suit i.e. 4 aces and 13 clubs

  15. TALKING ODDS • Your odds help you to determine whether or not you can continue to chase your draw profitably • You use your outs to calculate your odds

  16. TALKING ODDS • There are two main types of odds • The odds you are being offered by the pot, or your “pot odds” • The odds against you hitting one of your outs – your “drawing odds”

  17. POT ODDS • How do I calculate my pot odds? • Take the total size of the pot as it stands, then divide/ratio that by the amount it costs you to call • If the pot is $10 and it costs you $5 to call, your pot odds are 10:5, or 2:1. 5! $5 $5

  18. POT ODDS • Be careful! • Most people count the pot wrong when they first try • Any bets currently in the pot are part of the total pot amount • THIS INCLUDES YOUR BETS! $12 $3 $4

  19. DRAWING ODDS • A simple example • Roulette

  20. COMMON DRAWING ODDS • Like memorising your outs, you also need to memorise your odds against hitting your hand • Again this will help you at the tables • Here are the most common one card outs: • Flush draw: 4:1 • Straight draw: 4.7:1 • Two overcards: 6.7:1 • One overcard: 14:1

  21. CHEAT SHEET

  22. THE CHEATERS WAY! • When trying to figure out your odds… • If you are on the flop, multiply your outs by 4 to get your winning percentage • If you are on the turn, multiply your outs by 2 to get your winning percentage • These numbers will only be approximate – but they are pretty close!

  23. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER CALL $2! CALL $1! CALL $2! RAISE $12! $4 $6 $10 RAISE $2! BET $2! BET $1! BET $2! HERO VILLAIN
