  1. Agenda • The Green Consumer • LiteTouch…Born Green • Going Green with LiteTouch • LiteTouch Energy Conservation – Selling Consumers Green Benefits • Green Building Legislations • LiteTouch System Contribution to Green Building Certification

  2. Green Consumer What will people do to contribute to energy conservation?

  3. Green Consumer

  4. In recent years, when home prices were high, green homes were a tougher sell because builders tended to charge a premium for them. But now that home prices have dropped, green homes are more attractive, both because the premium has been substantially reduced and because people are more interested in saving money on energy costs over time. WSJ, 2/12/09 The recovery plan devoted more than $100bn to making private homes and government buildings more efficient, developing wind and solar power and spending on public transport. Guardian News & Media Green Consumer Current economic conditions advance green initiatives…

  5. Why Consumers Buy Green? There are three primary reasons consumers purchase Green products: • Save Money • Social Benefits • Contribute to the Global Environment

  6. Financial Considerations • Maintenance Expenses • Extend Light Bulb Life • Electricity Savings: Dimming • Electricity Savings: Less Wasted Light

  7. Born Green • LiteTouch was Born Green • Lighting Automation inherently reduces energy consumption vs. the toggle switch • Lighting Control is the only automation sub-system that reduces, rather than consumes energy

  8. Integration Automated Shade Control Remote Access HVAC Systems Occupancy Sensors Daylight Harvesting Control Latest in Energy Efficient Fixtures Green Building Legislation Dimming Master Off Timed Toggle Vacation Timers Astronomical Clock Going Green with LiteTouchA Chronological View • Conditional System Responses

  9. Dimming Features: • Dimmable Fixtures include: Incandescent, Halogen, etc. • Limiting maximum light levels to 90% can save on labor and 10% in energy costs • Fade rates to extend light bulb life Application: • Salt Lake City, UT LDS Temple

  10. Master Off & Scene Control Features: • Master Off & Scene Control from a single button Application: • Ensure lights are off when not needed • Avoid leaving lights on accidentally “The most efficient lighting energy source is one that is turned off.”----Lighting Industry Resource Council report to US Dept. of Energy

  11. Timed Toggle • Feature • Timed off toggle button • Switch lights or fans off after a specified period of time • Application • Commercial requirements; light never on more than an hour • Residential Bathrooms

  12. Vacation Timers Features: • Lighting automation while away or on vacation • Simulate occupancy • Added security benefit Applications: • Second Homes • Late evenings

  13. Astronomical Clock Features: • Automatically activate exterior lights precisely at sunset • Sunrise / Sunsetcontrol even whenseasons change Applications: • Lights are only onwhen needed

  14. User Programming Features & Applications: • Peak energy usage • Powering off electronic devices • Outlets • Lamp modules (coming in 2009) • System startup events • Leave lights off if powercomes back on at night

  15. LiteTouch LED Control • Voltage Controlled Dimming • Uses standard LiteTouch dimmers • 0-10 Volt DC • Uses LiteTouch 0-10v module • Serial RS232 • Control through serial protocols

  16. Integration

  17. Integration Remote Access • Activate lighting or other subsystems remotely without expending the energy to travel there • For example, close the storm shutters or turn off heating and cooling HVAC Thermostat • Change temperature settings automatically from a any LiteTouch keypad (Master Off) Occupancy Sensors • Lights left on is energy wasted “If 100 million households were to control just one 60 watt bulb with one vacancy sensor, this would represent almost 500 million kilowatt hours of energy savings, about $50 million per year and a reduction of almost a billion pounds of carbon dioxide.” --- Home Lighting Control Alliance

  18. Integration Automated Shades • Maximize Natural Light • Use only the ElectricLight Actually Needed • Reduce Solar Heat Gain • Lower Cooling Costs

  19. Daylight Harvesting Keypad • Use the energy you need; harvest the rest from the sun. • Makes the most use of sunlight • Measures levels of available sunlight and adjusts electric light appropriately “Effective use of daylight and aggressive use of lighting control technologies will be needed to significantly reduce lighting energy use.” --- Lighting Industry Resource Council report toUS Dept. of Energy

  20. Control LatestEnergy Efficient Lighting Features: • Control or Dim the latest in energy efficient lighting sources. • LED • OLED • CFL • Fluorescent Applications: • LiteTouch LED Control • Halo LED Downlight “20% of all electricity produced in the US is used for lighting, but 50% of that is wasted by inefficient lighting sources or careless consumers.” - ---The Energy Conservation Projectat LSU

  21. Green Building Legislation • LEED by US Green Building Council • California Title 24 • NAHB Green • Energy Policy Act of 2005 • ASHRAE/IES 90.1 • International Residential Code (IRC) • Canada Green Building Council • Building Technologies Programby US Dept. of Energy • Incandescent Lamp Legislation

  22. California Title 24 LiteTouch Provides Solutions for every requirement and more: • LiteTouch modules to control any high efficacy lamp • Compatible with all types of occupancy sensors • Compatible with photo sensors • LiteTouch has been dimming residential lights since 1978 Chapter 6. – Lighting Summary of New Requirements: • All Luminaires must be high efficacy or controlled by occupancy sensor • Bathrooms, Garages, Laundry Rooms, Utility Rooms, Other Rooms, Outdoor lighting, common areas in multi-family buildings • Half Luminaires must be high efficacy • Kitchens
