  1. How to Get Rid of Dark Spots The causes of dark spots or hyper pigmentation are due to the over production of melanin in the skin by melanocytes, extra melanin can be triggered by a lot of different things like imbalance of hormones, over exposure to sun. Other factors like skin irritation because of acne, waxing, and harsh scrubs, can also cause dark spots. Taking away these spots from skin is not easy. But with regular treatment and proper skin care regime can help to control this issue. Some are very useful treatments like- Vitamin C can be used as a topical antioxidant that helps to block free radicals from causing oxidative damage to the skin surface. It also inhibits enzymatic processes that produce melanin in the skin; as such it can help to reduce dark coloration of the skin. Another added benefit is that vitamin C lightens only targets problem pigmentation areas, not the rest of your skin. Chemical Peels remove the upper layers of dead skin, helping to reduce the dull appearance of the skin so that it reflects light better and appears to glow. Over time these treatments can stimulate collagen production, enhance cellular turnover, and reduce the appearance of dark spots. Typically three to six treatments (possibly more) spaced out by three to four weeks is needed to see results. Deeper peels have greater risks but may only require one or two treatments. Microdermabrasion is another well-known exfoliating treatment for hyper pigmentation that uses tiny particles to sand away dead skin. Microdermabrasion is best for milder hyper pigmentation conditions, since the results are modest in terms of improving the appearance of skin discoloration. Laser is the most expensive yet most impactful treatment to reduce dark spots. These use a focused beam of light that has a specific target pigment to break up and eliminate the pigment particles in the skin. Sunscreen– Actually prevention is always better than treatment. With regular skin care, protection and treatment we can reduce the colour of spots. Daily sunscreen is the absolute best way to prevent hyperpigmentation, Sunscreens, and particularly physical sun block that have either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, can block out most of the rays that will darken the dark spots. For true protection you need to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to guard against UVA and UVB rays.
