  1. Everything you need to know about semi-permanent makeup Semi-Permanent makeup is a popular beauty trend these days. We can observe celebrities, social media influencers, and even ordinary people opting for permanent and semi- permanent makeup. Anyone with little time on their hands but the desire to look fabulous is flocking towards this trend so we thought to dig in deep to understand what is the craze all about? If you are considering trying semi-permanent make up than you do not have time to apply make up every day. And if you do not have time to apply makeup you certainly don’t have time for research. So, we did it for you! Here we present everything you need to know about semi-permanent makeup. From the procedures, techniques used for best results, to the duration of the makeup. So, read on to find out: Introduction to semi-permanent makeup There are different names used for implementing pigment into the papillary layer of the dermis such as cosmetic tattooing, micro-pigmentation, and permanent makeup. It is a form of cosmetic tattooing that enables you to have long-lasting eyeliner and lip color. You could also shape and contour your eyebrows. This is done using a procedure where tiny particles of pigment are placed underneath the surface of the skin. As the name ‘semi-permanent’ suggests the pigment does not last forever. It can gradually breakdown and fade with time. Although, the pigment’s longevity depends on the age and skin type. It is also imperative that a trained semi-permanent makeup artist perform this treatment as micro-pigmentation techniques have developed recently. It requires special skills to perform the treatment safely and without accident so, you can’t risk going to an untrained professional. The procedure followed in semi-permanent makeup There are different procedures used for different areas such as eyebrows, eyeliners, cheek, and lips. Some of the popular procedures used in semi-permanent makeup are semi-permanent eyeliner, permanent lipstick, microblading of eyebrows, eyelash enhancement, and scalp micro-pigmentation that can mask several skin imperfections. Although, there is one thing common in all these procedures and that is the use of microneedles to inject pigments underneath the surface of the skin between the dermis and the epidermis.

  2. Different colours of the pigments are used for different areas being treated such as black for eyeliner and shades of pink for lips and cheeks. Techniques used for best results The technique used for face, cheek, and the lip is known as treatment pixelization in which a chain of tiny dots of pigments are used to create an illusion of shading and highlighting. In the case of eyelash enhancement, tiny dots of pigments are injected among the natural eyelashes to give it a fuller and thicker look. Whereas for the eyebrows, individual strokes are drawn by dragging the microneedle through the skin to resemble the natural eyebrow hair. The longevity of semi-permanent makeup The result of semi-permanent makeup can last up to several years. However, the longevity of the result depends on the procedure used. The semi-permanent makeup eyeliner could last for a year, micro-pigmentation lasts about three years and cheek blushing will sustain anywhere from 4 to 18 months, lip blushing can last up to 5 years, while microblading can endure up to 2 years. Also, as the pigments being injected into the skin are iron oxides, the results will fade eventually. Part of the pigment is broken mechanically while it is also natural for our skins to renew itself so old cells tend to die and shred and new cells emerge, which will result in fading of the results. The colour and texture of our skins change as we grow older and therefore, gradual fading is inevitable. So, touch-ups and refreshments will be needed for long-lasting results.
