The North East Approach • Launch of the Adonis Review - Sept 2012, aimed at addressing the structural weaknesses in the economy and supporting the creation of an additional 60,000 jobs. • LA7 Leadership Board – the Combined Authority proposal was submitted to Government following regional consultation and approval by LAs in July. • EU funding - LEPs and combined authorities will play a key role in developing an EU Structural and Investment Funds Strategy for the new 2014-21 EU Funding Programme which will launch next year. • Strategic Economic Plan and Growth Deals – To secure the new Local Growth Fund, the North East must prepare this plan and agree a growth deal. This is being developed by a joint team of Local Authority and LEP staff.

  4. “60,000 more and better private sector jobs by 2030” • Establishing a Combined Authority with powers and resources to promote better transport, skills and economic development across the North East LEP area. • Three management entities in the North East LEP area: • Invest North East /North East International to promote trade, inward investment, talent and tourism; • Transport North East to improve transport investment and services; and • Skills North East to transform the quality and quantity of youth apprenticeships.
