  3. Wal: About ‘g’ What sound does ‘g’ normally make? g = giant • Sometimes ‘g’ is used for the ‘j’ sound. The sound is often (but not always) spelt as g before e, i, and y. The ‘j’ sound is always spelt as j before a, o and u.
