  2. Learning Objective By the end of the lesson… • All pupils should be able understand how to work out a key signature • Most pupils should be able to identify and name Major key signatures • Some pupils will be able to name a minor key signature

  3. What is the Key? Sharps (#) No # or b = C Major Flats (b)

  4. Working them out!!! Key Signatures with Sharps (#) To work out what the key is for Key Signatures with Sharps (#) in them, look at the last Sharp and take a step up! This will be the key! G# + one step up = A The Key is A Major

  6. Working them out!!! Key Signatures with Flats (b) To work out what the key is for Key Signatures with Flats (b) in them, look at the “second to last flat!” This will be the key! Eb The Key is Eb Major

  10. Minor Key Signature • Each Key Signature that you have just learnt so far has a Relative Minor Key Signature • Firstly, work out the Major Key Signature like before. If they piece sounds like it’s a minor one you can work this out by counting down 3 semi-tones. E.G. • This key is Eb Major. • To find the Relative Minor Key, count 3 steps down • The relative Minor Key is C Minor 2 1 3
