Questions to discuss

Questions to discuss …

  • HOW do we reach out to members of the Enterprise?

  • Once we reach them, WHAT do we have to offer?

  • If the goal of the outreach is better communications, HOW is this achieved?

Some Concerns include ..

  • Internet has security and reliability issues

  • Climate data is the basic requirement and needs to be quality controlled, standardized and made reliable.

  • Small businesses need to be included in the Enterprise.

  • NOAA needs to rethink priorities (NPOESS climate instruments cancellation, GOES-R sounder uncertainties, lag in updating observations and climate signals that feed models).

Town Hall Feedback …

  • There is a strong need to better define priorities and then the resultant roles including partnerships.

  • NOAA needs assistance from the community in helping prioritize needs and this is confounded by the dynamic nature of the field.

  • Regional Climate Centers

  • American Association of State Climatologists

  • NWS Weather Forecast Offices

  • River Forecast Centers

  • AMS Local Chapters

What s next for the accs

What’s Next for the ACCS?

  • Climate Services (CS) suddenly a BIG deal!

  • New CS questions such as water supply, regional warming, sea level, etc.

  • Identify these NEW community priorities within Climate Services.

  • Strive for common themes when advocating issues and remain consistent with message(s).

What s next for the accs1

What’s Next for the ACCS?

  • Develop a “standard” presentation to be delivered at local focal points – could be a Power Point or Webcast resource.

  • Explore possible article about ACCS for inclusion in BAMS.

  • Pursue use of on-line availability of ACCS information / activities through AMS servers.

  • Feasibility of electronic Newsletter distributed through AMS and other local venues.
