    2. 2 It is assumed that voltages above 24 Volt AC and 110 Volt DC are dangerous In fact the current through ones body defines the effect of an electric shock A dry skin has a resistance of about 100kO but a wet or sweaty skin can have a resistance of less than 1 kO

    4. 4 When an DC or AC current goes through ones body, muscles can come coagulated. Compare a raw egg. Once it is boiled. You can’t reverse the coagulation of the protein.

    5. 5 The voltage of our electricity supply is 230 VAC 50 Hz

    6. 6 If you had an electrical accident, always go to a hospital for a heart check! It is proven that even days after an accident, heartbeat disfunctioning may occur.

    7. 7 Present, at home there is a so called RCD (Residual Current Device) *. That is a safety switch which switches the electricity off when the current to ground is above 20mA. Of course one feels a painful shock, but that is in general not deadly. * Aardlekschakelaar

    8. 8 In our lab we don’t have these RCD’s! This means that touching the 230V may give a serious problem!

    9. 9 High Voltages Present in many laboratory equipment e.g. lasers, piëzodrivers, electrophoresis bath and power supplies. Static electricity may cause the ignition of combustible fluids. Charged capacitors and cables.

    10. 10 High Currents Can be the cause of fire by overheating of cables. Shorting a high current source gives a big spark and spattering of molten metal.

    11. 11 Never! Use damaged line cords or line plugs

    12. 12 Never! Overload a cable reel.

    13. 13 Never! Modify the wiring in a plug

    14. 14 Never! Connect a three phase plug to a cord yourself

    15. 15 Never! Work alone

    16. 16 Know What to do in case someone has an electrical accident. Call first-aid (EHBO) 5678

    17. 17 Know How to switch off the power.

    18. 18 Know How to resuscitate one.

    19. 19 Let this never happen to you
