  4. Theme Question: How is science a part of our community? Page through Science All Around, select a picture that represents an answer to the Theme Question. How do you think science is a part of this community? What kind of science can you see?

  5. Activate Prior Knowledge Drip! Drop! • What do you know about water and how it gets to homes and buildings? Explain the steps it goes through. • How does water look, feel, smell, and taste? • What kinds of things do people use water for? • Where do you find water in nature?

  6. Introduce Theme Vocabulary * Streams are small rivers. Example: We catch fish in the streams. Ask: Does the water in streams move or stay still? * Cleaned means made free from dirt or mess. Example: I cleaned the mud off my bike. Ask: What have you cleaned this week? Review: Plans – Drawings or diagrams that show where things go.   24. Reinforce the Theme - How do people in a community use water? - Where can we find water in nature? Look at pages 22-23 in Drip! Drop! - What are some of the steps water goes through before it reaches our taps? Describe what happens at each. - Why does water go through so many steps?

Use a Dictionary • If words are not defined in a selection, readers can look up words in a dictionary. • A dictionary tells readers how to say a word, what it means, and whether it is a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb. • Words are shown in alphabetical (ABC) order. The guide words are at the top to help you find the word. Use page 18 in Drip! Drop! and model using the word filter. Use page 18 to practice using the word basin.
