  1. Introduction • Objective: • Today students will learn about Cyber Bullying. • Students will learn: • What is Cyber Bullying? • How it Works? • Why does it happen? • How to prevent it • What to do if it happens to you?

  3. Cyber Bullying Cyberbullying: is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. http://www.stopcyberbullying.org

Cyber Bullying Cont… • It has to be communication between two minors • or at least have been instigated by a minor against another • minor • Once adults become involved, it is plain and simple cyber- harassment or cyberstalking. Cyber Bullying Cont… • Students I urge you to be very careful. • What you say • How you say It • Who you say it to • Think before you speak • Never talk out of anger • Bullying is not just PHYSICAL it is verbal also • Sometimes words can hurt more than someone punching you • Once the impact is gone from a punch or a hit you can move on after sometime • When you say harsh things to someone the tears my stop but pain sometimes never goes away.

How it Works? • Starts with a evil thought • Then you get on the computer or cell phone and act out and release your frustrations and anger out on • someone your age or around your age (18 and under). • It’s NOT asking someone a question and just talking to them or chatting with them. • It’s when you use technology to Harass, Curse, Threat, Embarrass, Verbally Abuse someone, Say Harsh things to some one.

Why does this happen? • It happens because people are unhappy with themselves • You may have said or done something to them to offend them • We sometimes don’t know how to use our communication • skills • We don’t know the affect it has on the other person • Were not mindful of the other persons feelings • We don’t know how to use kind words

  22. When it Happens! • TELL SOMEONE IMMEDITLY • Print it out show it to your parent and counselor • Save the text message • Tell your parent or a responsible adult • Log off immediately • DON’T RESPOND • DON’T TRY TO HANDLE IT YOURSELF

Prevention & Interventions • Be Careful what you say and how you treat your peers and • and classmates • Watch how you use your words • Don’t handle disputes and misunderstandings over the internet • or through texting, see your school counselor or parent. • DON’T RESPOND! • Just like you saw in the movie clip. Tell someone immediately • REPORT the site that it is happening on
