Why could it difficult to be a studentat general medicine? • Patients come with symptoms, not well defined illnesses. • Patients present their symptoms according to the meaning it gives the person • The prevalence of diseases is different from what the students have experienced in hospitals • There might be several ways to deal with a problem

  4. To create respect for general medicin we……… • have to be able to clarify the core issues and values of general medicine to the student • have to clarify how we combine bio-medical education, tacit knowledge, patter recognititon and intuition when handling our patients.

  5. How on earth should we be able to do that?The questions that arose were : • How much should a basic doctor know about general practice? • Could we as teachers agree about this issue? • Which kind of teaching would promote the aims we agreed on?
