Why study a language at GCSE? • The government have introduced the English Baccalaureate which means… • it’s for you if you are thinking of going to university AND you are capable of getting Grade C or above in the 5 core subjects – English, Maths, Science, History/Geography anda Language • you will be competing for university places with people of your ability who will have the E Bacc– so you need to have it too. • many of the best universitiesare already expecting students to have a language at GCSE when they are looking at applications! HOW EASY IS THAT? • You will have completed 60% of your grade by the time you get to the exams in Year 11. • You know exactly what you have to do for this 60% - you therefore have control over your marks! • Only 40% is unknown – 2 short exams at the end of Year 11! • However..... for the Speaking and Writing Controlled Assessment Tasks you MUST be prepared to spend time on LEARNING, as this is the only way you will know your work to get you your grade!
