  2. Our 3 key objectives are: • To promote Independent Learning • To use staff and physical resources effectively to support curriculum delivery and enhance opportunities for grade improvement • To support ILT development

  3. Curriculum liaison • We offer the usual information services to curriculum teams and all book purchases, library and Areas of Learning, come through our contracted service with Coutts. Library staff are encouraged to liaise with Staff and Learners through training initiatives. • Our FE Centre is used for timetabled curriculum delivery, where computer access is required by learners. Study Centre staff support tutors using the centre’s facilities and as a consequence form close links with curriculum teams. • Study Centre staff support curriculum delivery. • For a number of historical reasons, six out of the ten centre staff have teaching qualifications.

  4. In the autumn term (up to our inspection in the first week in December 2011) we delivered: 130 hours taught/supported by study centre Staff on FE Study Centre Lower Floor, in total as Independent Learning. 11 hours per week Functional Skills taught by Study Centre Staff, supporting Areas of Learning. 107 hours Information Services / Moodle2 Inductions delivered to groups ranging from 10 to 50 learners by Study Centre Staff, as part of Tutorial Provision. 22 Empowered Learner Tutorial Study Skills sessions delivered, by Study Centre Staff as part of Tutorial Provision. A programme of Study Skills Sessions to HE learners.

  5. Curriculum liaison • Study Centre Staff deliver some Staff Training courses, particularly ILT training. • We are represented on the College Wider Leadership Team, alongside Programme Area Managers. • We engage with learners, alongside curriculum staff, on enrichment activities.

  6. Some tips: Do • Encourage staff to pursue teaching qualifications and get to use them. • Get involved with tutorial support and ensure that this happens throughout the academic year, rather than only at the beginning.
