  8. The Story of Shravankumar • Thousands of years ago there was a tick forest on the banks of river Sarayu which flowed close to the city of Ayodhya. One night, king of Ayodhya, Dasharath, came to the forest to hunt. Dasharath could shoot in the dark by merely following the direction of the sound made by animals. Dasharat waited under a tree. He heard a gurgling sound. Thinking that an animal had come to drink water from the river he shot an arrow in the direction of the sound. A moment later there came the cry of a human being. The anxious king ran to the place and found a youth crying in pain on the bank of the river. The arrow was stuck in his heart. The young man's name was Shravan Kumar. He was a caring person and was dedicated to serving his parents, who were old and blind. It was their wish to visit holy places in their last days. Shravan carried them from shrine to shrine in two baskets which hung from a sling. While on their pilgrimage the three had come to the banks of Sarayu for a short rest. Shravans parents felt thirsty and asked him to fetch some water. With difficulty Shravan told the King Dasharath about his parents who were waiting for him not far from the river. He requested the king to take the pot of water to them and then he died. Dasharath carried the pot of water to Shravan's parents. They said, "Son, why are you so late? Where did you go?" Dasharath did not reply. Then the mother asked, "Why don't you speak? What is wrong?" With tears in his eyes Dasharath told them about their son's death. He was willing to take them to his palace and look after them. But the old people were not interested in his offer. They only cried for their son. The mother dashed the pot of water to the ground and cursed the king, "One day you too shall die when your sons are not around." Many years later, Dasharath's son Rama and Lakshman had to go in exile for fourteen years. The pain of separation from his son was so great that it lead to Dasharatha's death. His only fault was that he had unintentionally prevented a son from serving his parents.

  9. Story of Ganesh and Kartikeya • a contest between him and his brother, Kartikeya. Kartikeya was very proud of his mount, the peacock, and his own speed and efficiency, challenged lord Ganesh to a race around the world 7 times. While Kartikeya made a tour of the world thrice, Ganesh just encircled lord Shiva and goddess Parvati, his parents 7 times, and claimed victory. The story is often related to inculcate in children the importance of God and their parents.

  10. NEVER FORGET YOUR PARENTS • Lest you forget everything, never forget your parents.Never forget that their obligations are innumerable. • Worshipped many deities on earth they have, to beget you,So never hurt their pious hearts with your harshness. • Remaining hungry they themselves, fed you and raised you,Do not spit poison, on those who have given you nectar. • They have fulfilled all your desires, and loved you deeply,Fulfill all their wishes, never forget to do this. • Even if you earn millions and your parents are not made happy,Never forget that without serving them millions are like ashes. • You want your children to serve you, become a child and serve,What you do is what you get, never forget this justice. • They slept in the wet, but let you sleep in the dry,Never forget the mother’s loving eyes, and let not tears come to them. • Lovingly flowers they have strewn, along your pathNever become a thorn in the path of those who guided you. • You can buy anything with wealth, but you won’t be able to buy parents. • At all times their feet so pure, never forget to love them.

It reduces excess of fats (if any), and makes a weak body strong and well built. For those who practice Brahmacharya, this asana is a special boon from Lord Shiva. This asana was specially designed by Lord Shiva and later Gorakhanatha made it popular. • Before you take a bath, rub your body thoroughly with a coarse towel. This friction generates static electricity, which helps in prevention of a number of diseases. Fast breathing improves peripheral blood circulation. • During inhalations, lungs are filled with clean air, which provides oxygen to all the organs of the body through arterial blood circulation. The venous blood carry carbon dioxide (toxic waste) to the lungs from where it is thrown out through exhalation. Some of the impurities are removed by sweat glands in form of perspiration. Therefore, it is better to bathe after rubbing the body because impurities are removed through perspiration. The rubbing opens up the skin pores, which gives agility to the body. Again after bathing, the body should be thoroughly rubbed with a clean and coarse towel.
