Nucleic acids
Nucleic Acids

  • Function/job: Store important Information in the cell

  • Made of: nucleotides

  • Examples: DNA and RNA

Nucleic acid structure
Nucleic Acid Structure

  • A nucleotide is made of 3 components:

    • Phosphate

    • sugar

    • nitrogen base

Dna
DNA

  • Contains information needed for cell activity and cell division

  • Contains all genetic information

  • DNA – Deoxyribonucleic Acid

Dna
DNA

  • Structure, It contains

    • Sugar Phosphate Backbone (deoxyribose)

    • Nitrogen containing bases (four possible)

    • Double Stranded

Dna
DNA

  • Double Helix, with base pairing in the center.

Dna
DNA

  • Four Possible Nitrogen Ring bases

    • ADENINE – A

    • GUANINE– G

    • CYTOSINE – C

    • THYMINE – T

      Know that:

      A goes with T

      G goes with C

Dna base pairing

The bases are in the inside of the ladder structure they are like the rungs of the ladder.

The order of base pairs gives organisms their unique traits

DNA Base Pairing

Dna

A bonds with T like the rungs of the ladder.

C bonds with G

It is estimated that there are over 3 billion base pairs in humans

Structure of dna
Structure of DNA like the rungs of the ladder.

Dna

Complimentary Strand of DNA like the rungs of the ladder.

DNA Strand #1

Double Helix Strand of DNA. –WRITE THE CODE FOR THE COMPLIMENTARY STRAND

Dots = Hydrogen bonds
