Session 1: Course and Training Overview Objectives: By the end of the session the student will have a basic knowledge and understanding of the following requirements: I: Required Training: In Station, PSTA, IT, On-line and other training II: Fill out all appropriate paper work III: LOSAP, Signing in/out and Stand-By Program IV: Bylaws, Rules & Regulations and MCFRS Policy & Procedures

Session 1Course Overview and Training Fit Testing You have previously received a form from FROMS on the day of your physical advising you that you are for physically acceptable to complete Fit Testing for a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus face piece. You will need to take that form to the SCBA Shop to get Fit Tested The SCBA Shop is located at: 8653 Grovemont Cir. (Shady Grove Rd east of 355, turn left on Oakmont, left on Grovemont Cir., second row).240-777-2221 Once you complete the fit test the technician will give you a form stating that you passed and what the test results are. Turn a copy of that form into the Training Officer

  5. Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training The following classes are required by Montgomery County and must be completed to ride any Fire/Rescue Apparatus. In-station Training:(As noted in GWGVFD QGR) As part of your in-station training you will be required to complete the following: • EMS Unit Orientation (Session#2) • CPR for Health Care Providers – Check Out http://www.gwgvfd.org for next class dates • Blood-borne/Airborne Pathogens Awareness Level • Hazardous Material Awareness Level • Complete and pass the EMS Observer Test (Session#4)

Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training Non PSTA On-Line Training The student will be required to complete the following On-Line Training: Complete the on-line registration and complete the course You will be able to print out a certificate once the course is completed • Blood-borne/Airborne Pathogens Awareness Levelhttp://www.saferesponse.com/sub_page/bbp_main.htm • Hazardous Material Awareness Level http://www.saferesponse.com/sub_page/hazmat_main.htm

Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training EEO/AA and the Law, Blood Borne Pathogens On-line Course: • To register for either on line course, you must e-mail Chuck Bartlett at the PSTA "Chuck.Bartlett@montgomerycountymd.gov" e-mail him your Fire Service ID number and a password (any password you wish to use) , he will enroll you into the program. • Now go to http://coursesites.blackboard.com/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp, logon and take the course. • Please review each section and make sure to mark each section as reviewed. If you do not mark each section as reviewed no matter what your test score is you will not get credit. The mark as review button is like our sign-in sheet. • Once you have completed the course, send him another e-mail advising him so, he will have you entered into registrar. The registrar at the PSTA will update your transcript and issue a certificate. • You may now send a request to the Training Officer to enroll into a Cultural Diversity Course.

Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training Public Services Training Academy (PSTA): PSTA Classes are held at the Public Service Training Academy located at: 9710 Great Seneca Highway, Rockville Maryland 20850 To register for a class held at the PSTA you need to fill out a Pre-registration Form and submit the form to the Training Officer. (Blank Form in QRG Appendix) Course listings can be found in the station PSTA Class Book located in the Station 8 second floor back room communications center or on-line at the MCFRS Training Academy web site : http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/firtmpl.asp?url=/content/firerescue/psta/index.asp

Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training Public Services Training Academy Classes (PSTA): The following classes should be taken in the order noted. • Blood Borne Pathogens – Prerequisites: Personal data sheet on file at PSTA This class is available online and can be completed as a independent course • EEO/AA and the Law –Prerequisites: Personal Data Sheet on file at PSTA This class is available online and can be completed as a independent course. • Cultural Diversity – Prerequisites: EEO/AA and the Law • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Prerequisites: EEO/AA and the Law, Cultural Diversity, Physical on file at PSTA, SCBA FIT Test. Please contact the Gear and Uniform personals to borrow the required gear as soon as you register for the course. • Hazardous Materials First Responders Operations – Prerequisites: EEO/AA and the Law, Cultural Diversity, Physical, PPE or Essentials of Fire Fighting. * PPE & HazMat Ops is for Fire/Rescue physically classified members only.

Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training MCFRS IT Training 800MHz Voice /Radio Training Go To: http://www.mcfrsit.com/index.asp Create a Tech Training Website Account Logon and register for a class that meets your schedule Training is conducted in Training Lab 5, in Suite 110 at 20400 Observation Drive in Germantown.

  11. Session 1Course Overview and Training Required Training Other On-Line Training The following training is required by Montgomery County under the Homeland Security Presidential Directive-5. All Fire/Rescue personnel are required to complete these classes nationwide. IS-700 National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-800.A National Response Plan (NRP), An Introduction IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System IS-200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents Go to: http://www.training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/crslist.asp and select your desired on-line course Complete the on-line registration and take the on-line test, FEMA will e-mail you a course confirmation Original – Your FilesCopy 1 – Send to PSTA Attn: NIMS Training Center (be sure to include your FIRES ID number and GWGVFD on copy.Copy 2 – Station Personnel Folder via Marybeth Henkel.Copy 3 – Chief Luper tracking copy.

Session 1 Course Overview and Training LOSAP, Signing in/out and Stand-By Program LOSAP Executive Regulation #82-91, Length Of Service Awards Program (LOSAP) • Part of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Commission Administrative Policy & Procedures • A copy is kept in the Station Officers Office • Governs how Volunteers receive: Participation credits Food re-imbursement funds Retirement

  14. Session 1Course Overview and Training LOSAP, Signing in/out and Stand-By Program Signing in/out Fire Service ID # Station Log Book Legal Document Found in the watch office in the LOSAP Book. Sign in and out at the beginning and end of your stand by, sleep-in, drill or class Sign using Blue or Black ink (never use pencil or red ink) - Stand-By; tracks members standby hours (0700 - 0700 hours) - Sleep-in; tracks members sleep-in hours (2400 - 0700 hours) - Training; Tracks members drills and classes (0700 - 2400 hours) - Meeting / Collateral Duty; tracks members activities directed at assisting the department (0700-2400 hrs) Used to calculate the level of participation in the standby program Used to calculate food reimbursement, budget justification and other operational and administrativeinformation.

  15. Session 1Course Overview and Training LOSAP, Signing in/out and Stand-By Program Stand-By Program Volunteer Stand-By Program Members are expected to participate in the standby program. Each Member is assigned a Stand-By Day/Night Must fulfill a minimum of 40 hours a month: Stand-By Period: (established only as a guideline) Weeknights (Monday thru Friday): 1700-0700 Weekends Days (Saturday and Sunday): 0700-1700 Weekend Nights (Saturday and Sunday): 1700-0700 Sleep-In: 2400-0700 Sign in/out accordingly

Establishes a Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures General Station Rules Use of Uniforms and Equipment Rules regarding Probationary and Junior Members Use of Computers and Internet in the station Contains Additional Rules

These manuals can be found in the 1st floor Captains office and reviewed at your leisure. GWGVFD Web Site (www.gwgvfd.org) To get access to the GWGVFD web site, send an e-mail to the webmaster. Tell him who you are and when you were voted in and he will reply with instructions on how to log in. - Has latest GWGVFD and MCFRS News and Activities. - Offerings for additional training, and discussion forum - Access inter departmental paging, and e-mail addresses - Private messaging with other members - Department Calendar with Standby schedules and training are also posted to the site
