  • The mother was less important than the father.
  • The mother was expected to do all the housework (cooking, cleaning and raise the children)
  • If the family was rich they had slaves to do the work.

  • Most children did not go to school because their family could not afford it.
  • Only boys and girls from wealthy families went to school, poorer children had to work.
  • Girls usually finished school when they were 12yrs old
  • Teenage boys went to GRAMMAR SCHOOL until they were 16yrs old
