  13. Power School FAQ’s • How do I access PowerSchool? • To access PowerSchool, go to the Verona School District website at www.verona.k12.wi.us In the upper left corner under Parent Quick Links, click on PowerSchool Parent Access. You will be prompted to enter your username and password which you receive in a mailing from the school in September. Once you have accessed your child’s information, click on the subject grade to see assignments. To move between subject areas, click on the back arrow.

  14. What is the purpose of PowerSchool? PowerSchool is an on-line gradebook. Parents may access PowerSchool to monitor student work. If you have questions or concerns about a grade/assignment, talk to your child first and then if you still have questions talk with the child’s teacher. • A word of caution: It is hard to monitor your child’s progress using only PowerSchool. So please use communication (parent-child, child-teacher, parent-teacher) as the main means of monitoring your child’s progress.

  15. How often are grades entered? Teachers enter grades at least every two weeks from the assignment due date. For example, if an assignment is due April 1st the grade would be entered by April 14. Major assignments such as projects that may take longer than two weeks to score would have a note entered into PowerSchool. Some teachers enter grades more frequently.

  16. Can grades be changed? PowerSchool is a working document. Teachers update scores as students make-up assignments, make corrections, or turn in late work. • What does a highlighted assignment or grade indicate? The teacher has added a note to that grade or assignment. Double click on the highlighted information to read the note.

  17. How are corrections recorded? Teachers may allow 50% credit for corrected work. A note will be added to the grade stating that corrections were made. What does no score indicate? --/ indicates that the assignment has not been recorded and is not figured into the student’s overall grade.

  18. What does a zero indicate? • A zero indicates that the assignment has not been submitted by the due date or the student received a zero and this is figured into the student’s overall grade. • What does EX indicate? • EX indicates that the assignment has been excused, for example due to an absence. There may be a note attached to the assignment for an explanation.

  19. How do I know if an assignment was handed in late? Once grades are posted on PowerSchool, a late symbol is attached if the assignment was turned in late. Within the two week window allowed for posting assignments, you would have to first talk with your child and second talk with the child’s teacher. • How often should I check PowerSchool? Of course it is up to the parent to decide how often to check based on the individual needs of the child. However, to help a child become more responsible for his/her own learning, we recommend that a parent check a child’s progress on PowerSchool once a week.
