Papworth Hospital • Best performing Foundation Trust. • International centre of excellence. • Largest specialist cardiothoracic centre in the UK. • National patient surveys put Papworth in the top 20% of hospitals. • Achieved 58 out of 60 passes in CQC Quality ratings and meet all CQC core standards.

  3. Papworth Hospital – why move? • The current site has some good facilities but the infrastructure is old, clinical adjacencies are poor and patient privacy is an issue. • Difficulty meeting increasing demand. • The hospital is located on an isolated site with poor transport links. • Patient care, research and education.

  4. Papworth Hospital is a founding member. One of only five Academic Health Science Centres in England recognised by the Department of Health as internationally competitive centres of excellence in the integrated delivery of health care, health research and the education of health professionals. Aims to improve patient care, patient outcomes and population health through innovation and the integration of service delivery, health research and clinical education.   5. Financial Performance • One of the earliest Foundation Trusts (2004) • £120m turnover • Specialist provider of local, regional, national and international services with a wide commissioner base • Strong financial track record – scoring 4 or 5 from Monitor for the most recent 4 years

The vision • To build a 300-bed, purpose-built hospital with 100% in-patient single rooms (and a research and education institute). • To provide a landmark building of which patients, public and staff will be proud. • To provide modern facilities that will provide a first-class environment for patients and the highest quality care.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) • An international centre of excellence in biomedical research • Part of an Academic Health Science Centre • Current occupiers include: Cambridge University Hospitals, University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, The Medical Research Council and Cancer Research UK • Papworth will be at the heart of the CBC

Scope of the Project • 300 bed cardiothoracic facility on the CBC (excludes Research Institute) • Installation and commissioning of ICT network infrastructure • Supply, installation, maintenance and replacement of equipment as defined by the Equipment Responsibility Matrix (no MES) • Maintenance, repair and replacement of all primary infrastructure • Provision and operation of retail facility • Provision of a range of hard and soft FM services • Contract term – 30 years plus construction
