  2. Why Attend a Career Fair? • Many employers all in one place • Face to face contact • Circulate your resume • Networking • Learn about different companies/organizations • Practice your 30 second commercial

  3. Preparation • Get your resume together • Visit Career Services • Practice your 30 second commercial • Research employers that interest you

  4. 30 Second Commercial • Brief statement that tells someone about your education, work experience, skills and career goals. • No personal information • No more than 30 seconds- 1 minute

  5. Appearance- Men • Clean, well groomed. Shave or make sure facial hair is neat and trimmed • Hair is clean and styled (long hair should be tied back) • Professional Dress- suit/tie or nice pants, shirt/tie • Visible tattoos should be covered • No strong cologne

  6. Appearance- Women • Clean, well groomed. Make-up is ok, but not too heavy • Hair is clean and styled • Professional Dress- Suit, nice pants/skirt and blouse, no flashy jewelry • Visible tattoos should be covered • No strong perfume

  7. At the Fair • Decide which employer tables to visit • Have your resume out and ready • Some employer tables will be busy- be prepared to wait in line • Plan to spend at least an hour there

What do you do when you’re in front of an employer? • Smile, make eye contact, shake hands • Introduce yourself • Give your 30 second commercial • Ask what types of positions are available • Ask if you can leave your resume • Ask for a business card • Keep track of who you visited, left resumes with

  9. After the Fair • Follow up with an email or personal note • Thank the employer for their time • Mention something specific that you discussed with the employer to jog his/her memory • Inquire about an interview/next step
