  2. Introduction • President: Ryan Turner • Vice President: Steve Nishiyama • Treasurer: Joshua Batt • Secretary: Landon Karren • Faculty Advisor: Dean Mitchell Forman, D.O., FACR, FACOI, FACP

  3. Membership Qualifications • Applicants must be in their third or fourth year of medical school • GPA must be maintained at 3.5 or higher • Other factors considered: Community service hours, club and research involvement, short essay

  4. Membership Details • Membership by Class • 2010: (16) • 2011: (15) • 2012: (19) • 2013: In the process of inducting new members

  5. Application Process • Application cycle opens at the beginning of the Fall semester • Decisions are made by the Pi Chapter Executive Council • Applications are notified regarding their decision as of mid-Oct to help them be involved in chapter activities early

  6. Financial Report • We use to receive no funding whatsoever from our school • This was decided by the OMSGA based on the fact that we are a selective club • We have petitioned this year for funds and have been approved for funding from OMSGA for $300 • Membership dues were increased this year as a decision of the Executive Council to add more funds to our balance • National dues: $35 • Chapter dues: $30

  7. Community Service • Members are required to serve 5 hours per semester • Must be completed by the last day of the semester • Members are allowed to attend their own service projects, but we also provide opportunities for the entire chapter to get together and serve at selected organizations • The Shade Tree Shelter • Homeless shelter for battered women and children in Las Vegas • Community Health Screen Fair • Provide free health care screening for adults in the Las Vegas Area

  8. Challenges • The Pi (Touro – Nevada) chapter is still in it infancy. We have been established for approximately three years and are currently inducting our newest class. • The Chapter’s presence has been minimal on campus for the last few years and many people do not know and understand what it means to be part of Sigma Sigma Phi • The 2012 class was inducted in April of 2011 and has not been given much time to be involved in Chapter activities.

  9. Goals • Increase our exposure and influence on campus through: • Service projects • Family friendly activities • Guest lecturers • Get members inducted early • Allows involvement • Provides leadership opportunities • Increase funding for our Chapter • Increasing dues • On campus fundraising • Graduation Honors • Meeting with Deans to discuss options for recognizing and honoring SSP members.
