  2. LOCATION OF STUDY AREA Masindi is a district located in western Uganda with coordinates of 1.8333oN and 031.8333oE. For years 1928 -1983. Altitude of about 1295m The district receives rainfall of about 1300 mm per annum.

  3. Cont’t • There two annual rainfall seasons: mid March to June and the second on between August to December. • Temperatures range between 20 and 30 o C

  4. OBJECTIVES • General objective • To determine the crop growing seasons using historical climate data. • Specific objectives • To identify the change in trend of climate • To determine the start, the end and length of the rainy season • To identify the crops suitable for the growing seasons

Start, End and length of rainy seasons • Definitions used • Start • Day after 1st of march with more than 20mm of rain totaled over 3 consecutive days • End • Definition from a simple water balance equation • First day from 1st June onwards that the water balance drops to zero • Capacity of the soil=100mm
