Synthesis, spectral correlation and antimicrobial activities of some 3’,4′-dimethyl phenyl chalcones

About eleven substituted styryl3, 4-dimethyl phenyl ketones[1-(3, 5-dimethyl)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-one] were synthesized using Crossed-aldol reaction. They are characterized by their analytical, ultraviolet, infrared and nmr spectral data. The spectroscopic data such as UV absorption λmax (nm), infrared νCOs-cis and s-trans stretches, the deformation modes of νCHin-plane, out of plane, CH=CH out of plane and C=C out of planes(cm-1), NMR chemical shifts (ppm) of δHα, β and δCα, β and CO carbons were assigned their respective spectra. These data were correlated with Hammett substituent constants, F and R parameters using single and multi-linear regression analysis. From the results of statistical analysis, the effect of substituents on the above spectral frequencies were investigated. The antibacterial and fungal activities of these chalcones have been evaluated using Bauer-Kirby disc diffusion method with respective antibacterial and antifungal strains.

Novel chalcones of 1-(4-(4-((6-((7chloroquinolin-4-yl) amino) hexyl) amino)-6 ((4-nitrophenyl) amino)-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl

A series of biologically active chalcones are prepared using 1-(4-(4-((6-((7chloroquinolin-4-yl)amino)hexyl)amino)-6-((4- nitrophenyl)amino)-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)amino)phenyl)ethanone and different substituted aromatic aldehyde under bio-friendly method. Prepared chalcones are characterized by IR, 1H-NMR and tested for their antimicrobial activity against a gram positive and gram negative bacteria's are using Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) method. Chlorine containing chalcones shows high antibacterial activity against tested bacteria, among the synthesized chalcones.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of a novel series of methoxylated chalcones as antioxidant and anti-microbial agents

A series of novel 2, 4, 5-trimethoxy Chalcones derivatives of biological interest were prepared by Claisen–Schmidt Condensation reaction. All the new compounds were evaluated for (1a-u) antioxidant (DPPH free radical scavenging activity) and antimicrobial (antifungal and antibacterial) activities against some selected pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Amongst all the 21 compounds screened, compounds 1b and 1o exhibited promising antioxidant activity (68 and 71% inhibition, as against standard BHA, 72 % inhibition ) while compounds 1c, 1d, 1j and 1k exhibited antibacterial and compounds 1c, 1j and 1k exhibited promising antifungal activity (MIC of 10-30 µg/ml). The structure–activity relationship (SAR) for all the above stated activities has also been represented.
