  2. Igneous Rocks • They are rocks formed by solidification of the magma underneath the earth’s crust or lava on the earth’s surface • Examples : • Granite b. Basalt

  3. Sedimentary Rocks • They are rocks formed from the fragments and decomposed products of other rocks • Examples: a. Sandstone b. limestone

  4. Metamorphic Rocks • They are rocks originated from exposing the old rocks to heat and pressure • Example: Marble

  5. Rock Cycle • It is the change of one type of rock to another

  6. Earth • It is the third planet from the sun • Planet Earth is suitable for life • Due to : • Presence of hydrosphere • The presence of atmosphere • Its temperature is suitable • Its atmospheric pressure and its gravitational force

  7. Earth’s Layers • It consists of three layers • Crust • Mantle • Core • Outer Core • Inner Core

  8. Earth’s Layers • Crust’s thickness: 8-50 Km. • Mantle Thickness: 2885 Km. • Outer Core: 2270 Km. • Inner Core: 1216 Km.
