  2. What is Traffic Calming? The combination of mainly physical measures that reduce the negative effects of motor vehicle use, alter driver behavior and improve conditions for non-motorized street users.1 1Lockwood, Ian. ITE Traffic Calming Definition. ITE Journal, July 1997, pg. 22.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? • Residents in Corporate Limits of Lafayette. • Residents in unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish. • Residents in these areas who do not live on roads which are included on the Consolidated Thoroughfare Plan or on the supplemental list included in the TC Policies and Procedures.

  4. SPEED MONITER TRAILER • Shows Department Action • Demonstrates True Speeds to Concerned Residents • Equipped with Traffic Data Collector

  5. TRAFFIC CALMING CRITERIA • >600 vpd and <3,500 vpd • >15% Non-Local Traffic • 4 or More Similar Crashes • 85th Percentile >7 mph Over Posted Speed Limit for 4 hours of a day and total hourly volume exceeding 34 vehicles per hour in the same 4 hours
