Other dispositions for rural sector. WINE ROADS AND ROUTES Art. 1Scope 1. According to rural development policies and in order to promote and enhance natural and cultural heritage of winemaking territories and related activities and productions by fostering several integrated offers to visitors, as referred to in law of February 10, 1992 n.164, the Region of Sicily has approved the creation and classification of the wine roads and routes, hereinafter referred to in as “Roads”. 2. These Roads are proved to be as tourist routes, where it is possible to find vineyards, wine shops and cellars, related museums of wine and viticulture, tourist information centers, typical high-quality productions, hotel accommodation facilities and environmental, natural and cultural values. As far as wine routes are concerned, territorial continuity along the coast and between the coast and the minor islands is guaranteed by the presence of the related road sign or indicator representing the Road itself and thanks to appropriate tourist information centers. 3. The Roads can involve those territories producing more types of PDO and PGI wines.

  2. LAW of August 2, 2002, n. 5 THE REGION OF SICILYClassification of wine roads and routes. Urgent regulations on the inventory of Sicilian wine production potential. Other dispositions for rural sector. Art. 2 Classification and legal Recognition of Wine Roads 1. The Roads are classified and legally recognized by an appropriate Committee made up of winemaking businesses, local bodies and other public and private stakeholders. However, the above committee should be composed of at least a third of those businesses producing high-quality wines referred to in the related Road. The president is elected among the representatives of winemaking businesses themselves. 2. Within a maximum of 120 days after the publication of the present Law, the Regional Councilor for Forests and Agriculture should issue the standard Roads Specification based on the Regional Wine Institute related plan. This Specification provides for the high-quality requirements as referred to in as art. 8. 3. The Committee should file for recognition of the Road to the Regional Councilor for Forests and Agriculture. This request is to include a specific protocol based on the above standard Specification herein, together with the related commitment subscriptions for carrying out the Road itself, presented, in turn, by the legal representatives of those joining the committee. 4. Within a maximum of 120 days after the submission of request, the Regional Councilor for Forests and Agriculture should approve the Specification with the related classification and legal recognition of the Road. The above time-limit can be modified one time for reasons of clarifications only. After this term, the legal recognition is deemed to be granted. 5. If more committees have been set up promoting the same Road, the one joining the highest-quality winemaking businesses takes priority over the others. 6. The Regional Councilor for Forests and Agriculture should identify a specific sign for each Road according to those criteria referred to in the standard Specification. 7. The Regional Wine Institute should provide for related organization of the above mentioned regional road sign, which is approved, in turn, by the Regional Councilor for Forests and Agriculture.
