  2. 1. Training of Orthopaedic Specialists • Conjoined Board of Orthopaedics • 4 Universities (UKM, UM, USM, UIA) • College of surgeons /Academy of Medicine (AMM) • Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA)

  3. Requirement : • Confirmed in service with ministry of health • Scholarship from government • At least 12 months orthopaedic posting • Selection of candidates : • Separate interviews • Program : Masters • 2 year basic trauma postings • 2 year subspecialty postings • Rotation vs single institution

  4. Foreign candidates : • Temporary practicing certificate (TPC) • Short attachment • Interview for entry • Other opportunities : • Fellowship : 6 to 12 months • Short attachment : < 6 months

  5. Rotations : • Paeds / LLRS • Spine • Hand microsurgery • Oncology • Sports • Arthroplasty • Trauma • Foot and ankle

  6. Examination : CBO Part 1 and part 2 • Part 2 : • Pre requisite : • Thesis completion • Continuing assessment • Final • Theory : Paper 1, 2 , BAQ • Theory : Viva 1, Viva 2, OSCE and (Log book) • Clinical : Long case, short case

  7. 2. Training of Subspecialty Specialists • Ministry of health initiatives – 2005 • 3 years fellowship programs – apprenticeship • Initially starts with Arthroplasty, Spine and Paeds • Now it covers all including foot and ankle

  8. Who can apply • All orthopaedic specialist after complete 2 years post masters or equivalent. • They must be willing to move – smaller places to provide service once finish • Must have good tract record within the service

  9. Requirement within the 3 years • 3 years • Complete and publish a paper • Log book • Supervisor reports • Optional one year overseas training and or another center in Malaysia • Need to pass part 1(after 1year) and part 2(end of year 3)

  10. Examiner • Government surgeon • Private surgeon • Universities
