  4. Auction Styles Format • You bid up from the seller's starting price along with other buyers to get the best deal. You can watch the item to see how the bidding is going. • When the listing ends, the highest bidder wins the item and completes the purchase.  • Benefits:√ Bidding can be lots of fun.√ You can find some great deals.√ You can use eBay Feedback and, if needed, problem resolution services. • Considerations:√ You need to wait until the auction ends to buy the item. √ You might be outbid.

  5. Buy It Now Format • You can buy the item immediately at a fixed price. This can also be an option in auction-style listings. • If a seller offers this option, you’ll see the Buy It Now icon next to the listing. • Benefits:√ You can buy the item right away.√ You don't compete with anyone else for the item. Once you buy it, it's yours!√ You can use eBay Feedback and, if needed, problem resolution services. • Considerations: √ If you want the item, you have to act fast! Buy It Now items are available only for a limited time on auction-style listings.

  10. Selling an Item • Make Sure Your Item is Legal to Sell on eBay. • Price and Category – Look on eBay for Comparisons • Select a Selling Format - Auction-style, Buy-It-Now fixed price, Dutch Auction • Determine Shipping Costs • List Your Item

  11. Cost to List an Item • Insertion Fee: When you list an item, you’re charged an Insertion Fee for the listing. The Insertion Fee is based on the starting price and the category of your item. If you specified a reserve price, the Insertion Fee is based on the reserve price amount. • Final Value Fee: If the item sells, you’re charged a Final Value Fee. The Final Value Fee is based on the final sale price and category of the item. It does not include shipping costs. • Listing upgrades: If you add upgrades to your listing, such as a subtitle, extra picture, or highlighting, there will be an additional charge for each listing upgrade.

When Your Item Sells • If you used Checkout or PayPal and your buyer completes Checkout or pays by PayPal, respond quickly to payment notification and ship the item as you specified in your listing • You can use Checkout to send the buyer an invoice • If you didn't use Checkout, contact the buyer directly by email or phone within three days of the end of the listing • Ship your item safely and on-time

  14. eBay Scams – Things to Know • Know the Produce • Do Not Follow Email Addresses on Listings • Short Duration Sales are Suspicious • American Laws Only Apply in the US • If Seller is in US, be Sure Bid Amount is in US Dollars • Look at Return Policy • Look at Seller Feedback (Inactive Accounts are Sometimes Stolen) • Talk to the Seller

  15. eBay Scams – Things to Know • Look at Photos – Are they stock photos? • Are Payment Methods Acceptable • Look at Sellers Other Items (Many differing items may be suspicious.) • Talk to the Seller • Call the Seller • Be Careful of Second Chance Offers
