The scenario of official statistics • Building up until the beginning of the XXI century (Lisbon process; EMU statistical requirements too little – too late). • Saturation point now (response burden, budget cuts) - while statistical demand keeps growing. • Slow response to accelerating change. • Challenges on data security, confidentiality, privacy. • Slow adaptation to new drivers (large datasets, computing power, merging files, automated data capture, integrated processes, new sources…). • Less control of the concepts in the sources. • Limited exploitation of research results. Risk of losing market share NTTS Conference

  3. The opportunities Giovannini’s formulaVAS = N * [(QSQ*MF)*RS*TS*NL]      Research in official statistics • Developing tools, methods, solutions. • Providing secondary use of data. • Giving feedback on quality. • Building statistical literacy. NTTS Conference
