  4. Task One As this presentation continues, begin to ‘informally’ write a ‘To Do’ list for tomorrow. Gradually add to it as the session continues. We will return to this activity….

How Do YOU Manage Your Time? • What do you think are the biggest challenges facing trainee teachers in terms of time management? • What do you feel are common causes of distraction for you as a trainee teacher? • Could you outline your routine or system that you use to help you manage your time?

  6. 1440 Minutes/Four Parts • What you have to do. • What you choose to do. • What you want to do. • What you end up doing.

  7. The Three Time Zones As a trainee teacher, you need to manage three time zones: • Zone 1. Structured Time • Zone 2. Unstructured Time • Zone 3. Your Personal Life

  8. Transition from Zone 2 – Zone 3 Consider the following question, discuss in pairs: When and where does work stop and personal life begin?

  9. How much to do in Zone 2 • How much do you do? Make some time to plan your day. • How well do you do it? Break it down into chunks of time.

  10. The Pareto Principle or the 80-20 Rule • 20% of your tasks produce 80% of your results. • 20% of a meeting gives you 80% of the information. • 20% of your contribution produces 80% of the recognition you get. • 20% of the clothes in your wardrobe are worn 80% of the time!

  11. Top Tips for Trainee Teachers USE ‘TO DO’ LISTS: • Diary/Notebook/Planner. • The night before. • Prioritise. • ABC Method. • How long will it take? • Build in slack time.

Top Tips for Trainee Teachers • One minute of teaching = one minute of planning. • Use resources that will save you time. • Build up your physical resilience; you need to be fit and healthy if you are a teacher. • Experienced teachers are a wonderful resource! • Accept that you cannot do everything!

  13. Top Tips for Trainee Teachers • Learn when to say “No”! • Separate work time and personal time. • Mutual moaning = great therapy! • Commit to some social events!

  14. Know When To Be ‘Unperfect’ • Choose carefully what you give 100% to. • How to know when good is good enough. • Ready-Fire-Aim. • Embrace your mistakes. ‘The man who never made a mistake never made anything’. Albert Einstein
