  4. MO FARAH -+

  5. Mo Farah Mo was born in Somalia, on 23 March 1983. He spent the early years of his childhood in Djibouti with his twin brother. He later moved to Britain at the age of 8 years old to join his father, speaking barely a word of English. His father, Mukhtar Farah, is an IT consultant and a British citizen, who was born in London, England and grew up in Hounslow. Mo’s parents met during a holiday. Mo attended Feltham Community College in London. His athletic talent was first identified by physical education teacher Alan Watkinson, who later said: "When I first met Mo, he was struggling academically and suffering from the language barrier. He needed focus and I sort of took him under my wing. His passion was football but it was his turn of speed on the pitch that showed his real talent." His ambition was to play as a right winger for Arsenal football club, BUT he later joined the Borough of Hounslow Athletics Club in west London.

  6. Personal life In April 2010, Farah married his long-time girlfriend Tania Nell in Richmond, London. Farah has a stepdaughter Rihanna from this relationship. He and his wife have twin daughters Aisha and Amani born in August 2012. Achievements Mo devoted his life to becoming a world champion and soon he did. He has won over 13 gold medals since 2005 including the five medals won in 2012 and 2013. Two of these medals were at the 2012 Olympics.

  8. JK Rowling

  9. J.K Rowlingand her life Joanne Rowling was born 31st July 1965, in Yate, Gloucestershire where she wrote many of her bestselling books. Joanne and her wonderful imagination wrote a series of fantastic books, which she managed to sell 400 million copies of. Her books are now the bestselling in history. This was a very big achievement! J.K Rowling is one of the greatest authors we all know and look up to. When Joanne Rowling wrote her first book in 1997 she changed her name to J.K Rowling. This was due to the theory that boys would not read her books if they thought she was a girl. This theory was developed when most people realised girls were expected to write fairy tale type stories.

  10. “The biggest failure I knew” Seven years after graduating from university, Rowling saw herself as "the biggest failure I knew". Her marriage had failed, she was jobless with a dependent child, but she described her failure as liberating: “Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy to finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one area where I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter, and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. “

  11. Inspiration “I was travelling back to London on my own on a crowded train, and the idea for Harry Potter simply fell into my head. I had been writing almost continuously since the age of six but I had never been so excited about an idea before. To my immense frustration, I didn't have a pen that worked, and I was too shy to ask anybody if I could borrow one… I did not have a functioning pen with me, but I do think that this was probably a good thing. I simply sat and thought, for four (delayed train) hours, while all the details bubbled up in my brain, and this scrawny, black-haired, bespectacled boy who didn't know he was a wizard became more and more real to me. Perhaps, if I had slowed down the ideas to capture them on paper, I might have stifled some of them (although sometimes I do wonder, idly, how much of what I imagined on that journey I had forgotten by the time I actually got my hands on a pen). I began to write 'Philosopher's Stone' that very evening, although those first few pages bear no resemblance to anything in the finished book.”
