Israel and War. War of 1948. After gaining it's independence Israel was being tested by Arab countries. They were attacked several times. Israel's Army was made up of ex WWII soldiers. Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq were the Arab countries that attacked Israel. War of 1948.

  2. War of 1948 • After gaining it's independence Israel was being tested by Arab countries. • They were attacked several times. • Israel's Army was made up of ex WWII soldiers. • Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq were the Arab countries that attacked Israel.

  3. War of 1948 • Many gang members joined Israel's army • Israel had a Navy • Israel also bough bombers from America • Arab countries did not communicate. • Lack of communication causes the Arab nations to surrender. • Israel calls this war their War for Independence.

  4. War of 1956 • War was also called Suez Canal Crisis • Suez Canal is located between Egypt and Sinai Peninsula • Egypt was on one side and on the other was Britain, France, and Israel. • US stopped paying for a dam in Egypt.

War of 1956 • Nobody would help Egypt with money. • Egypt responded by closing the canal. • Israel won battles on Sinai and Captured Suez. • Egypt negotiated surrender and England was happy to because their citizens is tired of war. • Egypt is given control of the Canal and they will promise to open it up.

  6. War of 1967-Six Day War • Tensions came to a boiling point • Arab countries received false reports that Israel was massing troops. • Arabs begin to mass troops. • Arabs also close the Suez Canal which was a declaration of war.

  7. War of 1967-Six Day War • Israel launches air strikes on Arab countries. • Israel quickly gains key land. • A cease fire was ordered. • Israel's land tripled in size.

  8. War of 1973-Yam Kippur • Egypt tried to get land back from what they lost in 1967. • Egypt was willing to lose a million in an attack. • Egypt was given military supplies from Russia. • Israel did not feel safe giving land back to Egypt.

War of 1973-Yam Kippur • Arab forces did a surprise attack on Jews holiest day Yam Kippur. • Egypt lost a lot more men • Israel gave Suez Canal Back. • Israel gained support from more superpowers. • The war was a morale boost of Israel because they were once again able to hold off Arab countries.

  10. War of 1973-Yom Kippur • Many Arab nations realize it will not be easy to beat Israel. • These nations begin a diplomatic approach to their differences.
