  3. Flame Test Lab • OBJECTIVES: 1. To observe the colors emitted by various metal ions 2. To evaluate flame testing as a method of detection of metals 3. To determine why different chemicals produce different colors when exposed to an open flame.

  4. Flame Test Lab • PROCEDURES 1. First dip the loop into the water 2. Then dip the loop into the solid and collect a small amount of solid on the loop 3. Place the loop in the flame and observe the color 4. Rinse the loop and discard 5. Replace the water 6. Repeat with all of the other substances *Use the cobalt glass with KCl
