  1. SPRING BREAK Flights Searched By: Allyson Seitzer Coach Green Probability and Statistics

  2. Flight Research Expedia.com allowed me to search by destination, and gave all necessary information such as distance, airline availability, flight number, and price. This helped in choosing the cheapest flight with the least amount of connecting flights.

  3. Which Destination Is The Farthest? 2 9 7 1 3 8 6 4 10 5 1 – shortest distance 10 – longest distance

  4. Which Flight Is Most Expensive? 9 3 7 8 5 2 6 4 10 1

  5. Does Distance Determine Cost? The previous charts show the cities in order from shortest to longest distance and from least expensive to most expensive in terms of roundtrip cost. When determining whether the distance influences the cost of the flight, certain flights showed that longer distances did not account for an expensive cost. For example, the distance from Greenville to Denver is 1,132 miles and it is the least expensive trip. Also, Seattle is the second least expensive trip and its distance from Greenville is 2,531 miles. Though some cities like Salt Lake City and San Juan are high price along with longer distance, and the trip to Honolulu is the farthest and the most expensive, I also believe that the location and popularity of certain cities play a role in whether a flight is more expensive.

  6. Scatter Plot of Estimated & Best Fit Lines

  7. Estimated Line The coefficient of this line is .5194, closer to 1 for a better fit than 0, or no fit. The line does not exactly pass through the middle of the values, but it does show a positive slope. The x value for the estimated is not much greater than the x value for the actual line of best fit. Actual Line The coefficient of the least-squares regression line is 1.0, giving a perfect fit for the scatter plot. Like the estimated, this line also shows a positive slope and intersects through two points. Because of the similarities between the two lines and the small difference in x value and coefficients, I would say the estimated line was pretty close. Correlation Coefficient and Fit Comparison

  8. Which Destination Is A Good Buy? I decided to find a destination with good price for the miles traveled, and the two values above the $500 mark and between the 2,000 and 3,000 mile mark prove to be the best choices because the next farthest destination is over $1,000. I chose the cheapest for the farthest destination of the two, which happens to be San Diego, California.

  9. Persuasive Essay Dear Mom and Dad, For Senior year I would really like to take a great trip to San Diego, CA. Soon I will be saving money for college tuition and I will not be able to pay for a flight across the U.S. This trip is perfect because even though it’s a major distance, the flight is very cheap. I promise to find a safe hotel to stay at while I’m in the city, and since the flight tickets are so cheap I could easily bring a friend with me. I hope you can consider this a reasonable trip for Spring Break! Love, Allyson
