  1. The following will be covered in the Cable production. Cables for cosmic stands et cetera are not covered here. Specification Contingency Supply Chain Purchasing QA & QC Packing & Transporting Production Rate Installation Scheduling Costs Commissioning Cables for the RE4 Upscope in CMS

  2. The Range of Cables • Chamber cables • HV cables from patch panel(YE1) to chamber • LV cables from Caen 3009 (Racks) to chamber • DCS cables from Link Board Crate to chamber • Signal (LVDS) from Chamber to Link Board crate (LBB) • Temperature sensors. • Inter rack cabling • LV (48V) cables from Mao(ACDC) to Easy Crate, Caen 3009 (x4) • LV 3 phase from rear of rack to ACDC. (x2) ? • Caen bus communication cables(x4) from Mao to Easy crate ? • USC/UXC cabling • Branch Controller (LV and Comm.) to YE1 PP and YE1PP to Mao. • HV, USC/UXC connection is there, had been installed for RE1/1

  3. Trigger Cables • Trigger Cables (& Fibres) • 12 new LBB crates each with 4 LV cables (2.5V & 3.3V) from the Caen 3016. The cable is in the ISR. • The signal fibres from the LBB to the USC are already in place, only 50%used. • New “Double” fibres (80) are needed from each tower thru’ the Mini Cable Chains to YE1 Fibre PP. ? • TTC fibres on YE3. • Ethernet cable ring on each yoke. • The new LBB will not need the add on regulator with its associated cabling. • The Polish expert is Krzysztof

  4. Signal cables from Chamber 864 cables to Manufacture Skew Limit 1.5ns/15m Skew [ns] Remaining cables from RE1,2 & 3 production retested in July 2011. Technikable seem are slightly better. Length is sufficient as we have 23km in stock and we need 9493m. But will check stock of Technikable.

  5. Signal Cable RE+4 Heat Exchangers will be added In Racks on X2 there is a length problem wrt RE3, that will require rerouting.

  6. Cable destinations gone to Integration office ESR Meeting 14 March 2012 F. Loddo INFN-BARI

  7. Signal Cables • Signal cables /LBB Crate 6x6x2 [RE4/2&RE4/3] 72 • Signal cables Total [RE-4 & RE+4] 864 • DCS cables 1 x 144 144 Industry was used for the previous production which included the QA up to the skew test. This approach is required here given the manual nature of the job. The twisted pair cable has no laminated zones and so each strand of each pair has to be placed individually with no errors. I propose to contact the company for a quote, in terms of delay and cost. The company estimates 2 months. The skew test could be done by the same industry or in-house, specific simple to use equipment is required as was built for the previous production.

  8. HV Connector Cable needs are 2.1km. In stock are 3.1km. 3 pole CPE connector, old design with Stycast potting 144 Cables plus some flying spares to use through out the system for repairs and debugging

  9. HV cable production • HV cable from Chamber to YE1 PP 144 pieces • The connector assembly is very delicate and intricate, and so should be followed in-house. • The testing will be done at 15kV (as before) , this time with current, for some hours. • Clearly all failures are identified and the connector redone, numerous failures are to be expected. The person should an expert available for 2 months. • Spares for repairs on the yoke and diagnostics (x10)

  10. LV & Communication Cables • Chamber cabling • Power pole connectors (15/45 & 75Amp), Molex connectors. 72 cables • Rack Cabling • 48V LV cable from ACDC to (MAO) to Easy crate 4 cables • 3phase cable from rear of rack to ACDC. ? Not required • Branch controller (BC) in S4F03 in USC • 48V service power to UXC YE1 PP x2 cables • 48V service power from YE1 PP to ACDC on YE3 thru’ Mini Cable Chains. To be est. • Communication from BC to YE1 PP To be est. • Communication from YE1 PP to ACDC on YE3 thru’ Mini Cable Chains. To be est. • The number of cables of any one type, involved here, is small and so should be done in-house. 2 month of a cabling technician. • Sergei Lusin’s schematics: http://rpc-cms-re4-upscope.web.cern.ch/rpc-cms-re4-upscope/RPC/Services/CableOverView/sergy%20lusin/rack_layout_21nov07.pdf

  11. No new cable types so no new CERN approvals required. 904 Integration office must confirm integration, cable path & length wrt piping , Mini cable chain etc The cable space allocated in 904 will be used including the space ISR. Signal cables made with previous company near Neuchatel. QA & QC procedures must be established for each cable type. All cable types are in drum form, require connectorising, (including procurement of connectors) Costing will come when full component list is established. See below. Full breakdown of cabling needs is being built here: “http://rpc-cms-re4-upscope.web.cern.ch/rpc-cms- re4upscope/RPC/Services/CableOverView/ file name “CablesUXCUSCRE4.xlsx” Cables should be ready for installation end 2012 This talk can be seen at; http://rpc-cms-re4-upscope.web.cern.ch/rpc-cms-re4- upscope/RPC/Services/CableOverView/CablesRE416April2012V3 Questions and Conclusions
