  2. Blackboard is a learning management system. It has display and interaction facilities which can enhance the students’ learning experience, and materials and assessment deployment facilities which permit faculty to keep the students well informed. Students will gain from having ease of access to written materials, interaction with their peers on discussion boards, interaction with students from other colleges and institutions; access to recorded lectures which accompany the lecture notes, access to guest lecturers in Webinars. Blackboards is just taking off in the Colleges of Applied Sciences – it will be an interesting journey. The following is a student manual to help you get started with Blackboard. It will take you through the steps required for you to access your courses and grades. You will need to follow the steps carefully, soon you will be an expert.

  7. This is the welcome screen in Blackboard. It contains announcements, your courses, calendar and other tools. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  8. The first place you’ll want to go is “Personal Information” http://www.coas.edu.om/

  9. Click on “Edit Personal Information” http://www.coas.edu.om/ Click on “Edit Personal Information Link”

  10. Within this screen, you can change various information about yourself. At any time, you may change your personal information, such as email, to settings that are more useful. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  11. To change your blackboard Password Click “Change Password” http://www.coas.edu.om/

  12. This will allow you to set your own password. Since you are already logged in to the system, you need only type a new password and re-type the same password to continue. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  15. Within the “My College” tab, you are able to access a variety of information, including: announcements for the courses in which you are enrolled, calendar, and tasks. You can also access each of your courses directly. http://www.coas.edu.om/

One central course with the usual course id and one Section course where the course id is composed of: courseid+college+sectionnumberIn the above example this student is enrolled in the course INFT1002 (Foundation of Digital Technology) and INFT1002IBR20 (Ibri section 2 of the same course)You will get the course material from the central course and will get extra material and assignments, tests, and exams in the Section course

  26. To send an email, click on the link.To send/receive messages to/from Course Lecturer or colleague in the course click Messages http://www.coas.edu.om/

  27. This will take you to your course inbox and sent page where you can access your messages and send message to the lecturer or your colleagues in the course http://www.coas.edu.om/

  28. The roster selection will allow you to view who is part of your course. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  29. This will bring up a roster listing. Students who have enabled email in their personal information will have their email addresses listed. Also, by clicking on a name, you will be taken to the individual’s personal page if they have enabled this feature. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  30. The discussion board allows you to view messages posted by your instructor and classmates. You may reply, discuss, and debate and it is all archived in the discussion board.You may view the discussion board in both a linear and special format. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  31. The tools area contains many of the same functions as the welcome screen. It also contains the grade book and the student version of the Blackboard manual. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  32. The digital drop box link provides a secure method for exchanging files with your instructor. http://www.coas.edu.om/

  33. Within the drop box acts as a personal “virtual hard drive.”You may also send files to your professor by clicking on the “send file” button.

  34. Any additional questions regarding the Blackboard system may be addressed in the system manual. http://www.coas.edu.om/
